This doesn't really fit your preferences but one of my favorite books is A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby. Another of my favs you might dig, if you like historical stuff, is Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. It takes place during the Vietnam War. It was honestly incredibly hard to put down! It made me laugh and cry and was honestly just all around fantastic.

a long way down actually looks so interesting! I really like those kinds of stories as well :D

Omg! How was Kate DiCamillo? She was one if my favorite authors ever when I was little. Ahh

She was awesome!!!! Super kind and gracious. I didn't get much time with her, just said hello really, but she gave a talk for about an hour and... that was phenomenal.

One thing she talked about that really stood out to me was something she said in regards to writing. She told us that when we write we have a "patterned, lovely thing and then you sucker punch it with the truth."

I got super emotional near the end of her speech, especially when she said, "Words matter, words don't fail," and "It is a privilege to have anything to do with books." I guess it just gave me validation that what I am doing does matter, that words mean something and the emotion they invoke in people means something. And that's why I write and why I will always write. So, yeah she's awesome and today was really... eye-opening for me.
