Split Rock Lighthouse
Split Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located near to Silver Bay, Minnesota on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the United States.
The light was constructed in 1910 in response to an increased number of chips being wrecked by storms in the area between Grand Marais and Two Harbors some years prior. The 1905 storm Mataffa being partially responsible for twenty-nine vessels damaged or sunk and thirty-six seamen lost.
Alongside the lighthouse were three two-story brick dwellings to house the keepers and their families. Due to the lack of a road to the lights location at the time supplies were delivered via boat and hoisted up the cliffside. in 1916 a motorized tramway would be built to for ease of transportation of goods.
Once Split Rock had received road access it became an immediate local tourist destination due to the cliff's views of Lake Superior as well as the lighthouse. Keepers at the light were encouraged to interact with visitors and allow them to view the light's lens and mechanism to attract tourists. The light would eventually be decommissioned in 1969 and handed over to the State of Minnesota in 1971. To this day it remains a premier tourist attraction.

So the person submitting this has had a life long fascination with the Edmund Fitzgerald ever since they could remember. This year I finally got to see the honorary lighting of split rock light house since it went virtual. It’s only lit novemember tenth in honor of the 29 sailors lost when the fitz went down in 1975. It got so gorgeous as the dusk deepened. I was not there in person, but rather this is a screenshot from the stream.

I definitely won't be watering for a long time because I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to have this many splits. Hopefully if I just ignore it everything will stay okay 😅
