Pleiospilos compactus subsp. canus

Pleiospilos is one of the many genera in the Ice Plant Family, and they are found mostly in the arid center of South Africa - this one comes from the province known as the Orange Free State. The name "split rock" is sometimes used for Pleiospilos, but this refers especially to the species with rounded leaves, like P. bolusii or P. nelii - plants that really do call to mind a rock that was cleft in half.
