Dean´s Inception to Misbehaving.

I’m going to take a chance and write about my observations and interpretations about The Trap dancing scene in last week’s episode. Let’s start acknowledging the obvious homoerotic subtext all throughout the episode. For me the main focus and positive trope to Dean’s subconscious self, was this dream/hallucination.

I found some similarities between this particular scene of Dean’s dream with Castiel the second time they had a direct interaction on the episode: Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester ∞ SPN 04X02 and the “Tap Dancing Scene” with Garth to the tune of “Let’s Misbehave” in the last episode: The Heroes’ Journey ∞ SPN 15X10. Some parallels establish clear differences in both of theses dreams/hallucinations.

Dean’s dreams and the Calling to Misbehaving.

When Dean sensed Castiel in his dream, he approached him. But Garth had to present himself, and make the approach like a courtship. The obvious connotation for me is the crush Garth had and probably still has on Dean.This, I think, is the great difference, between a completely platonic crush and a real attraction to a person that could be a lover.

I don’t have anything against Garth’s feelings, and probably Dean’s Dream/hallucination means he is becoming consciously aware about Garth’s infatuation in a subconscious way. This puts his bisexuality in the spotlight, the same way the light follows him while he tap dances.

I think the most important thing here is how Dean loses himself in the enjoyment of dancing, at first with Garth, but then all by himself. I interpreted this as a way for the writers to sub textually let us know that Dean is OK now. He is acknowledging that he is attracted to men, and they could be attracted to him too.

Look, I’m going to be brutally honest in regards to what I saw here, and I want to make it clear that I’m not trying to kill anybody’s shiper dream, because I will be killing my own. But many of us know, it is completely plausible for a Sub Textual Canonization in The End followed by an an open acknowledgement of the big elephant in the room (Aka Destiel).

Dean’s bisexuality acted as the centerfold in this entire episode, the key that confirms we clowns aren’t applying makeup in vain. Of course, it had to be in SUBTEXT inside a dream. This scene has so many layers, especially because Garth acted as this outside influence or agent for all our hopes and dreams for Dean to be rescued from himself. Dean TAP DANCING on the BIG TABLE in the WAR ROOM at the THE MEN OF LETTERS BUNKER had me crying with happiness! ( The loud sound of Je Ne Regrette Rien slowed down can be heard in the distance)

While I try to calm myself, let me explain why this scene called my attention first, trying to get out exploring how we got there. Remember, you never recall how you get inside a dream. Oh! wait, I remember now. Because Dean had cavities, Aka through his mouth. The mouth that Garth, a male, was working on, Aka getting inside Dean.

Now to close the circle and going to the outside layer, when the dream/hallucination was over, while discussing the current: Pissed off GOD AKA. currently NORMAL Winchester Status. The same Male Dentist with whom he shared a sub textual homoerotic dream, tells him he needs a colonoscopy. I’m confuse, is this oral-anal an homosexual thing? (Again, Insert Inception 528491 loud noises)

What my cynic and salty shiper’s mind sees here is a reference about how we will get THERE, AKA THE SUB TEXTUAL END. But, what my resilient and full of clown makeup heart wants to believe is, this is a way to make Dean CONSCIOUSLY aware about the end of times, by getting him aware of the things he needs to enjoy.

First, for them, Team Free Will and the rest of the people surrounding their universe, are now getting aware that by pissing off GOD they reached THE BOSS level, and like in any video-game the next thing is probably a definitive END. Second, it was directed to US in the REAL WORLD already knowing as an audience about SUPERNATURAL’S Tv show ending. Why don’t give this closeted main character a chance to allow himself to be happy?

What killed me the most all over this episode, were the subtleties and then the blatant Contextualization of all THE GAY. Look at the way Garth almost orders Dean, out of the blue, to put something in his butt STAT. Because they are getting out of time. While Dean, with the mouth full... of “cotton” looks surprised but not uncomfortable and/or flustered as he previously demonstrated had been while encountering this kind of situations... almost as if, that dream/hallucination gave Dean a self-realization or INCEPTION about the possibilities of doing whatever was closeted or repressed inside him. Could he bring out into reality without the agency of the anesthesia that made him loose himself in a dance? Again, as a NORMAL feeling and behavior for Dean Winchester, you know because End Of Times and stuff.

As a Hunter of monsters and Son of John Winchester he always thought he couldn't have it all. Like, being the Best Hunter or being the Best Brother and caregiver for Sam. And also, as a hunk that enjoys all the cornucopia that sex and feelings can give him with a cute blonde. Could he also enjoy sex plus feelings for “any” Devastatingly Handsome Blue-eyed Trench coated Angel, you know, a random dude? (This was a sudden description that came to my head ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

Yes, why not? I dare to have a little bit o hope TODAY. And believe this could end in Dean open acknowledgement of his desires and feelings towards a man. like Castiel... HIS CANONICALLY BEST FRIEND who can also be a lover!

Now, to prove my feverish dreams are not JUST the clown in me talking take a look of the difference between Garth’s approach towards Dean. Against the porno like setting in 2 frames of Dean approaching Castiel in the dark.

As usual, I’m NOW in full clown make up trying to finish this long hallucination I had about Dean ending the show with a clear and evident manifestation of his feelings and/or physical intentions towards Castiel. I want to believe this could be the key to opening Dean’s subconscious, allowing it to manifest and be enjoyed in his real and conscious world. I really really hope this acid trip of an episode wasn’t just a subtext orgy for the sake of having our minds blown. (I can hear again in the background the Booooommmm Boooommm of Inception, this time sarcastically)

I hope this ends up becoming the Inception that Dean needed to let himself enjoy whatever is trapped inside his dreams that could probably make him happy in reality.
