15.09 is on, and dean wakes up in purgatory alone. and i think for the first time he realizes what he actually wants, even if he thinks he can never have it. when he thinks cas really and truly might be gone forever, the whole search for the magical macguffin they need to stop chuck becomes moot. he stops even looking for THAT, and his SOLE priority is cas.

but he's also racing a clock before he's trapped in purgatory forever. he can't just go off on a wild mission like he did the last time he was there. he has no idea where to even begin looking for cas, and no idea if cas is even still alive. so he does the only thing he can do, and prays. he puts all of this into words, GETS DOWN ON HIS KNEES, tears running down his face, and puts all that longing behind his words. but he still holds something back, because the weight of potential loss is just too much. he saves that for when if he gets cas back. because he doesn't believe any more that getting cas back is in any way guaranteed.

he walks back toward the portal to wait for the countdown on their time there to end. if cas hadn't been there, he would've waited until the last possible second. and even then, i'm not sure if he would've gone back without cas.

and all of this still makes me insane
