Grammatical gender doesn't really follow any "logic" - as someone whose native language is very gendered, and whose word for "ovary" has the masculine grammatical gender, I can offer up the following example for this:

Fork: die Gabel (feminine gender)

Knife: das Messer (neuter)

Spoon: der Löffel (masculine)

See? No rhyme or reason. I don't even think it's vibes; I think it's mere happenstance. Also, loanwords from other languages:

Die Email (feminine) vs der Brief (the letter) but die Post (mail in general)

Der Laptop/der Computer (masculine) makes a bit more sense because der Rechner (German word for computer) is masculine also.

Das Smartphone equals das Telefon, so that makes a lot more sense.

Still it's often a toss-up when we integrate new words what gender we give them. And there's no official decision, sometimes two or all three variants are used concurrently for a while until one pulls ahead.

I’ve personally used both the flat single-filter version AND the triangular two-filter version, and based on subjective personal experience I would argue that the benefits from the second filter, both in terms of airflow and filtration, are absolutely worth it. If you need a makeshift air filter and you have two filters to work with, build the triangle (if not the box, i have no idea how good that one works but based on the info here i presume it’s a fair bit better.)
