have y’all noticed the fandom’s relationship to the show is basically an abusive one?
they treat us like shit and hardly ever give us what we want. but we stay. we watch. we write. we analyse. we interact. why?
because we remember when it was good. we remember the glimpses of beautiful writing, the brilliant acting, the fullfilling character arcs, the shocking plot twists that actually made sense... but the show is still largely trash. it just has ocassional moments of brilliance. like demon!dean in s3. like the michael/dean - lucifer/sam paralels. like purgatory. like cas’ love breaking his brainwashing. we remember that, every couple of years or so, the show will momentarily become good and treat us right.
so we hold on to it. god, do we hold on to it. unable to let go, taking all the bullshit, waiting, hoping, praying for the good things to happen again.
but they hardly ever do. and now it won’t happen again.
but it just hit me...
THAT’S why we can’t let go. Supernatural is our collective abusive bf.
I just watched the destiel clip and I’m so glad I did not watch that whole show for that. Yeah I’m never finishing spn, the plot is so boring in the 6th (or 7th?) season I’m on and it’s not worth it if that is supposed to be the pay off. No hate to spn fans but please don’t treat this as some end all be all of queer representation, I don’t think I’d even count it as the bare minimum.
I’m catching up with Supernatural...
And as I was years ago, I’m an avid reader of critical and angry metas, specially Dean Winchester negative posts, cause he’s this terrible guy I love to hate. I left the fandom for like five years, though, so I don’t know when and why did people started to see him as “just an example of the Edgy Bad Boy character type that was so popular back in 2005″.
I LOVE THAT IDEA, and I need to read about it. There were other Dean Winchesters around in media back then? I can think of Sawyer from Lost, and I don’t know... Jack Sparrow? I need like an academic paper about toxic masculinity in fiction in the early 2000′s, or I’ll have to write it myself.
Ummmmmmmm but why can't we just not hate? Why do I have to either be a Destiel shipper and hate Sam or love Sam and hate Misha/Cas or dean like ????????? Why is this such a weird concept to love them all????
Okay, but I see people talking about how heartbreaking Dean’s prayer to Chuck was, and I guess it would be if not for one thing that keeps me from taking it seriously...LITERALLY WHY WOULD DEAN GIVE A SHIT ABOUT CROWLEY? At best, Crowley is a convenient tool for when the Winchesters need something done. He is not their friend. He’s not their ally. He was the King of Hell, and he was always out for himself. He’d take whatever side is most beneficial to him. Yeah, he helped the Winchesters on occasion, but how many times did he double-cross them too? There is no reason for Dean to want Crowley back. There’s no reason for him to feel anything other than “oh, well he was a pain in the ass but he could be useful at times,” at best.
JFC, stop trying to make Crowley as important to Dean as Cas. The very idea that Dean and Crowley’s relationship is even in the same league as his relationship with Cas is utterly laughable. Fuck you, writers. Stop trying to compare them. Crowley was a piece of shit. He didn’t need or deserve a redemption arc. He doesn’t deserve a speck of Dean’s grief. Stop trying to make Cas’ death less meaningful by putting him on the same level as Crowley.
God, this show’s hard-on for Crowley remains even after the Carver-era, and even after he was written off the show. :\ Meanwhile, their disdain for Cas and Cas fans rings loud and clear.
okay so I get notifications on Google from things that I’m subscribed to and???? I went to look up som definitions for a class work and this was the first thing up there???? is…… when was this?????? im…… my horrible humour that is sure to send me to hell is like “hah, it’s satire” but there’s other smaller part of me that’s like “ !!!!?!?!?!?!?!???!?!?!!?!?!??!!?”

edit: I read the article and my brain is just now confused even more fUCK
