Like Bloodlines I get they wanted to try something completely different, because if you are just going to do Supernatural 2.0, what's the point in watching a copy when the original is right there. Even Kripke co-signed Bloodlines. The main problem was it was too CW, and it seemed they felt like they need to have certain elements in the show that otherwise wouldn't be apart of SPN. But, there is a version of Bloodlines that could work. Wayward Sisters, that was just a bad idea from conception.

I mean, I kind of feel like a lot of the problem with Bloodlines was that it was trying to be Supernatural 2.0 except more CW and without the fundamental ingredients that made Supernatural 1.0 work? Ennis was knockoff Sam without a Dean - ostentatiously fridged girlfriend to start a revenge mission, mysteriously absent father who knows about hunting, blah blah blah. Set against the backdrop of a very CW monster mobs in Chicago premise.

Wayward honestly felt like they took a completely unconnected concept that was half Buffy ripoff and tried to shoehorn it into the Supernatural universe. Hunting is fun, the YA characters have special powers and/or are immediately amazing at everything they try, lazy stereotypes, lazy copycat Hellmouth so they don't have to give a crap about lore, blah blah blah.

I'm not convinced a John & Mary prequel is inherently worse than either of those - but nothing about it sounds inherently better, either.

Here's a SPN spin off idea.

Jackles takes a cross between Constantine, Black Sails and John Wick and we just have a Dean Winchester show where he's gone total badass killing every homophobic MotherFcker at the CW who kept him and his angel apart for over a decade (as well as monsters and demons and shit) only he's also super angsty and prays to poor dead Cas every episode (the new broment?) And Sam only shows up in every fifth episode cos he's now a family man with a Prius and a very pregnant Eileen who often still sneaks out to help Dean with research even though Sam disapproves because draaamaaa) and everyone is Very Concerned but Dean Cannot Be Stopped because broody men motivated by grief and loss is a very big trope in hollywood and Jackles would prob get an emmy for it lbr.

Anyway for the midseason finale we find out Cas is alive and the whole show we're just hoping that they reunite FINALLY whilst watching Jackles flex his action man muscles.

Oh and Benny is there. Vampirates!

Spoiler alert Cas gets a 2 minute segment at the end of each episode where he is pissing the Empty off by talking about how sweet and kind and loving Dean is after we've just watched 40 minutes of Dean being a ruthless bloodthirsty killer. Its great.

Spinoffs

...that could have worked

1) Rufus and Bobby-- 

Younger actors, and start them with Karen’s death. They’d have to be careful to get the Rufus/Bobby chemistry solid with the casting, and be careful not to step on too much established world building, but I mean, who doesn’t want to see an episode about what happened in Omaha? And once in a while seeing tiny Sam and Dean staying with Bobby... Also once in a while have Steven and Jim reprise; sitting on the porch drinking and reminiscing to frame the story, or have a few later years stories (think Safe House) thrown in. 2) Jody and Donna-- 

but staying true to form and being sheriffs that hunt instead of glorified babysitters.

3) Younger Sam and Dean-- 

start it off after Sam reads John’s journal and take us up to that door slamming closed behind him as leaves for Stanford.

everyone always bags out the idea of a "Bloodlines" supernatural spinoff in favour of a "Jody and Donna" supernatural spinoff, and I agree, a "Jody and Donna" spinoff would be awesome, but can you imagine how freaking awesome a "Bloodlines spinoff would be? like seriously. the forbidden love between Violet and David? violet's arranged marriage with a werewolf in New York? the shifter family's deals with the Djinn family? the tension between the Duvals and the Lassitters? the recent death of Margo and David's father and Margo's attempts to lead the family now that he's gone? the tension this will cause between Margo and David, especially after David's prodigal son return to the family, and after the murder of their brother Sal? what does innes do after he discovers his father isn't dead? and appears to be a hunter? how does Innes cope with his imminent entry into the world of hunting? what does he discover, and who does he kill first? I would watch the shit out of this.

I want a Jody and Alex spinoff. 

I want a spinoff where all the dead up in heaven riot against Metatron. 

I want a spinoff where Sonny just raises those boys in that home, and sometimes he calls Sam and Dean and they come into town expecting to fight a horde of angry ghosts, but Sonny's just picked too many overripe peaches, so he made them some pies and lets them stick around a few days to just chill and play with the kids and Sam helps the boys do research for their history exams, and Dean teaches Timmy how to catch a baseball or pin a bully in three seconds flat, and maybe he takes Timmy out to get a new action figure.

I want a spinoff of Bela coming back as a demon to take down Crowley with Sam and Dean's help, and she rules hell with an iron fist, doing away with deals for lost little girls terrified of their parents, and instead does the deals with those parents, and when they get to hell... their sins are met with a punishment a thousand fold more terrible than any they ever dished out. 

I want a spinoff where all the angels who have died and gone to wherever angels go when they die, watch down on Castiel as he struggles with this thing they call life. 

I want a spinoff of just Chuck as he continues to write the damn books. I want to see God's POV. 

I want an endverse spinoff. 

I want a spinoff of Aiden, Krissy, and Josephine's lives. And I want Claire Novak to find them after the death of her mother, as she's searching for the angel who took her father's vessel. I want this more than air. 

I want all of these things. Please. 

I want a spinoff worthy of being called one.

SPN Spinoffs Entertainment Weekly Would Like to See

Entertainment Weekly gives us 5 ideas for potential Supernatural spinoffs. I've been seeing a LOT of great ideas for spinoffs making the rounds this week. Charlie and Dorothy in Oz, something Garth-centric, all of them centering around the characters we know and love and stories that have already been developed and nurtured. EW is thinking along the same lines with the 5 spinoff ideas they present, from Lucifer, Resurrected to SPN: TNG to John: My Two Sons.
