I am re-watching Matrix: Resurrections (Empty is sitting with me though only half paying attention because he has GDQ up) and a fun little moment I noticed was when Neo sees Trinity for the first time after getting freed from the Matrix. The first time I saw the movie, I had a question but ignored when it looked like the Trinity he speaks to might not be her (the way The Analyst makes her fade away in code), but later in the movie, Trinity brings up the conversation the two of them had before The Analyst shows up, meaning he just like... transported her or something?
So the Trinity who sees Neo come into the garage and who she went to and said she hoped to see him in the coffee shop is in fact Trinity. The last time she saw him, he had been plugged into the Matrix with the false appearance of a much older man. It stood out to me then that she recognized him. I pointed this out to Empty the neat tidbit that she is completely unphased by his appearance, how she recognized him anyway. We don’t run into anyone else in the movie who needs Neo to look like himself to recognize him, so it’s not really addressed.
I was thinking about her comment, ‘what happened to you?!’ as her recognizing him as he is supposed to be but recognizing that it could just be about him ‘looking like shit’ as Bugs said.
So I really liked where Empty took it after we did in fact manage to establish that it is an actual conversation that Trinity had. I’d said that she recognized him despite the image shift, but Empty pointed out that maybe... she saw him as he is. That they saw each other. I’d somehow managed to miss that her spiel about looking like Trinity and her husband laughing was because her husband doesn’t see her as she sees herself because... we’re seeing her as Neo sees her. We’re in his perspective. So likewise, she would see him as he is. As far as I can tell, it’s not something the movie addresses — the altered appearances — after Neo is unplugged, so it’s all just left for us to figure out, and I just find that really fun and a nice addition to everything they do with Neo and Trinity’s story.

I will always think Caleb makes a better mermaid than a vampire. It’s so cute when he talks to the dolphins.
He’s such a precious little bean.
It’s been a rough day for these two.
