a quick snapshot of the red jacquard underbust corset I was asked to make for my male client the other day. Unfortunately, the red is quite difficult to photograph, but I hope you see the pattern-matching a bit ;)
It’s been a long time since i’ve sewn something for myself just because i can instead of making something for more or less special occassion.
This babe is just a plain black underbust but it’s very handy and my old one got too big. Also my other corsets are a bit too fancy for daily use and swarowski embellishment does not do under clothing.
1-layer, herringbone coutil, spoon busk (i am in love with spoon busks!), double boned. Just a really simple black corset.
My pattern still needs a bit of tweaking from here and there as I noticed some asymmetry on my hips and my previous pattern didn’t point them out. Kinda odd, but oh well. I quite like the shape and it’s suprisingly comfy considering my asymmetry.
It’s finished! Now for seasoning
1899/1900
This corset is made of khaki drill lined with white twill and interlined with hessian. There is no boning in this corset except for tempered flat steels to support the back lacing. Instead it has strong, eight ply string cording vertically and across the hips. The spoon busk has a wide steel support underneath which was known as a double busk. The newly formed limited company of R and W.H Symington and Co Ltd produced this quality corset for the extremely low price of 16/3d per dozen which means that it could have retailed at 2/3d each.

Getting my shit together slowly but (more or less) steady. I made this corset for myself for a burlesque event where i'll be a part of a side act. Double boned, 1-layer with spoon busk. Still breaking it in so the curve isn't as cool as it should be.
Not a great photo, but finished with the flossing and really like it :)
Still trying to decide if I want this corset to be with blue or black lacing.

Since I still need to make the Elfia photo’s smaller I thought a little preview on the corset I’m currently working on would be nice.
Admittedly I started on this corset over the summer, but all the events and the lack of proper boning had it on hold for a while. Now I’m inserting the boning and decided to give some ‘work in progress’ photo’s.
It’s a black 1880′s spoon busk corset. I used Norah Waugh’s corsets and crinolines for the pattern.
