okay this is something i’ve been thinking about for a while but with season 2 coming to a close it’s time to type this post:
HoO needs to be an animated show.
not a live action series. not a 2-hour movie. an animated show, preferably with more than eight episodes - let’s go back to 22 episodes, 20ish minutes each. this just has soooo many benefits and good qualities, at least imo
• first of all, the cast. hoo takes place in the span of, what? less than a year after pjo ends, then the whole thing itself is less than a year, especially the three latter book that are back to back weeks/months. the cast is going to age DRASTICALLY between filming, and that’s without even taking into account the original pjo cast. animation will solve that problem since voice acting isn’t as age-limited (idk what to call it okay but you get me) as on-screen acting.
• another point about the cast/characters is that animation will allow them to design the characters according to the books’ description, and since for some fans this is a huge deal i’d consider this a benefit. the existing pjo characters can stay the same as in the live action show for continuity and obviously keep their original actors as their voice actors!! win win since i love the cast and i feel like getting them behind a mic will be amazing and hilarious (have you seen walker scobell in phineas and ferb??)
• guys. heroes of olympus is NOT going to fit in an 8 episode show. the first couple books, eh sure, but with the amount of separate side quests and chatacter arcs in 3,4,5 this is just not going to cut it. it’ll feel rushed.
• which brings me to my next point, and probably the one that matters the most to me personally - with the amount of lore, quests, characters, magic, creatures, shenanigans- this is going to take IMMENSE cgi and editing and idk and it’ll just look clunky(not sure if that’s the word i’m looking for) irl. but if the whole thing is ANIMATED, well - the sky’s the limit. heck, past the sky since they’re IN THE SKY HALF THE SERIES. IT’LL LOOK SO GODDAMN GOOD. so beautiful. i can see it it’ll be incredible.
🚫 now to debunk a counterpoint my friend has presented to me when i told her i think books generally should be turned into animation - the audience. according to her, making it live action over animated makes it more approachable to wider audiences and that way it doesn’t appear exclusively for kids. well, i think that once a fandom for pjo has already been established after five season (that i’m positive we’ll get) this isn’t worth sacrificing anymore. like at that point there’s an audience already so. not that the only viewers of hoo will be the people who watched pjo but yknow. the impact has been made.
anyway tho is all soooo hypothetical but if they’re already starting to think about an hoo show (which walker has. walker scobell is quite literally one of us.) I NEEDED TO GET THIS OUT
