Aras is one of the juiciest magic user characters I've ever read while indulging in none of the usually morally grey genre traditions. He is kind and calm and generous and funny. He is 50+ years old wifh a wife and daughters whom he has a great relationship with, and soldiers who adore him and are happy to be led by him. He tries as hard as he possibly can to be ethical with his magic. And also he takes over people's minds sometimes on purpose (!) because he is so ruthlessly practical and sometimes on accident because he is just so scared of dying (!!!!)

#like this is not the 19 yr old mmc sad boy with red eyes and black hair (that's Ryo)#this is a well established adult who has clearly developed systems to keep from being unethical #but unforch being a sorcerer is basically unethical and now three books in we r seeing the consequences #of Aras always having to restrain himself because what happens when he is just too tired or scared #sorcery is Inherently unethical but how do you handle that when Aras has made every promise he can to try not to be unethical #this book series is sooooo good #tuyo
