You know what's even MORE dangerous? ........... LEPTOSPIROSIS I work in emergency and specialty vet med and I can guarantee you that pre-treating for the vaccine is far safer than your dog actually contracting the disease. Why? Because leptospirosis is fatal almost all of the time. Once your dog gets to the point where it's symptomatic (i.e. icterus, polyuria, febrile, etc.), *it's already too late.* I think we're able to save maybe 2% of the cases that come to us like this, and then we have to spend extra time explaining to owners that leptospirosis is zoonotic and they need to take extra precaution in handling their pet for the next couple of months. Just get the damned vaccine.
