So I just found out that Spotify doesn't allow podcast episodes >12 hours. I can upload them, and I publish those summary episodes for all my multichaps - but apparently none of them are actually displayed on Spotify, and they cannot be played there. Some of them seem to be playable on other platforms: For example, I can see 'a lighthouse burning' with just under 18 hours online on Pocketcasts, but the 18+ hour episode for 'The Whole Damned World Seemed Upside Down' doesn't show up there either - but both have been streamed somewhere, according to my Spotify stats. This is SO weird. Why allow creators to upload and publish such long episodes, and never tell us that you're just going to hide them? Why pass some long episodes on through RSS and but not others?

My apologies to anyone who's been looking for summary episodes for my 12+ hour multichap pods. They're all there, I diligently created and posted them for ages!

I'll have to think about what to do with this, and I'd love some insights from listeners. Should I still provide summary episodes, but split them into several <12-hour episodes? Is that still a benefit over having the chapter-by-chapter posts? Have you ben finding those long episodes on other platforms anyway, and this is a non-issue? Alternatively, I've been pondering a move away from Spotify (for hosting, it'd still be available to listen!), because the platform only ever gets worse, and they don't gaf about all the bug reports I submit. It's only ever "everything would be fine if you would just use Chrome."

What should I do about multichap summary episodes?

I never listen to those anyway

Split them into <12-hour chunks

Post them with >12 hours, listeners will find them elsewhere
