Spotify might not be doing their artist a service by offering their music at a cheap price, but they are certainly doing their customers well.ย The whole argument about boycotting Spotify in order to support artists is somewhat unfounded, since the Spotify hate doesnโt exist to many listeners out there.ย In fact, I seriously doubt that listeners are actually concerned with the profit loss to artists, since the mere act of listening to them is the biggest sign of support any listener can give to their artists.ย Spotify also offers variety, not only in terms of music, but in listening styles.ย One can create a radio station based off of one artist or many artists โ when that is no longer pleasurable, they can switch listening modes and actually hunt for song.
The aftermarket support for Spotify is nothing short of amazing.ย There are some nifty add-ons that follow Spotifyโs tactics in spirit โ Songza has been used to create playlists based on attributes other than just a group of songs, they also use the userโs mood to determine how a playlist should be populated.ย Spotify took notice to this and has even implemented their own version of mood based music choice.
