Bay Tobiano Spotted Blanket
Eliminated - Round 1
Description: A bay horse with tobiano pattern and a spotted blanket. Tobiano is commonly identified as white patches that appear on the horse's topline between its neck and tail dock. Tobiano horses commonly have facial markings and white legs as well. Tobiano can cover as little as 2% of the body (leg and facial markings not accounted for) and up to 95% (percentages are approximate). The skin will turn pink in the areas the white patches reach while the rest will be dark. The eyes may be blue, more commonly so if surrounded by white, however, brown is still more common. In some cases, heterochromia may be present. Spotted blanket is a part of the leopard complex and causes a white batch on the horses' hindquarters which can expand all the way up the horses' barrel, along the white patch are holes or spots, where the coat color pokes through.
Genetics: See Standard Bay for Bay genetics. Tobiano is a dominant trait meaning only one allele is needed for tobiano to appear (T/T, T/n). Spotted Blanket come from the genetic group leopard complex that can with one gene (Lp) and a modifier (PATN1) create more or less 10 different white patterns. It is believed that other genes or modifiers may be responsible for some of these coats but these have yet to be discovered. Spotted Blanket are percent when a horse has one Lp allele but lack any PATN1 allele (Lp/n). Horses that carry two copies of Lp usually result in a snowcap and if PATN1 was present the coat would turn into leopard.

Bay Tobiano/Spotted Blanket in Real Life Tobiano Spotted Blanket is what's called a pintaloosa pattern and is rather rare to come by, therefore I am unable to show a true bay tobiano spotted blanket.
