Yosuke was chilling up on a rooftop leaning against his staff as he overlooked the city. There weren’t any signs of Akuma's or anything yet here he was transformed.  He let out a sigh. He knew why he was up here. There wasn’t really much to do when you were a transfer student from Japan that barely knew French. He knew enough to get by and through classes but to be able to make friends and hold conversations? Very unlikely. Besides he was sure of the other college students thought he was weird. At least as Nekomatta he was liked by the city. Everyone enjoyed him! Even if it was just cause he was saving them from villains... He let out another breath to calm himself, he knew the dangers of letting his emotions get the best of him. He’s already fought a few akumatised victims with his new partner in crime or well heroness? Eh, whatever he’ll think of a better word for that later.  He did wonder who that Ladybug was. She really knew what she was doing like she’s done something like this before. But that couldn’t be, right? He’s never heard of anything like this happening before. Maybe it’s a french thing. 

Well, whatever no time to be moping around. He got up and decided to head to the park to see if he could find anyone his fans he could entertain.

               the lights beating down on the theater stage had taken on a slightly yellowish tint — as if to replicate the layers of dust and grime only years without proper upkeep could accumulate. beneath them, joker paced back and forth like a rat in a cage — a criminal in a prison of his own creation — waiting for the next target to be presented for judgement, kicking and screaming and begging for their life.      ( as if they were worth mercy, as if they were worth compassion, as if, as if, as if — ) the crowd below, both shrouded in darkness yet stretching as far as the eye could see, swelled and murmured in anticipation. they had come to see a show — come to see THE PHANTOM THIEVES       ( as the posters plastered wall to wall had advertised ) and they would not do well to be kept waiting.

               they could turn on them in an instant, after all. they would. they did.

               however, in an unexpected twist, a voice calling out managed to catch his attention and for a moment joker went suddenly, unnaturally still. just as quickly, his head snapped up, and he gazed out across the gloom with wild, too-wide eyes, sucking in a shuddering breath as if he could tell its source was not of his own creation.      ( not one of the shadows, not one of the crowd. ) ❝ my thoughts? ❞ he repeated slowly. the audience murmured indecipherably, hungry for a response.

               a giggle slipped through cracked lips, and joker quickly slapped a hand over his face in an effort to regain his composure. ❝ sorry! sorry! ❞ his shoulders shook feebly. ❝ but it’s just so funny to think about! it really is! ❞ the raven peered through his fingers, his eye but a sliver of yellow far more vibrant than the muddy lights above. ❝ hey, hey! are you trying to take my name or something? steal my thunder? ‘cause that’s really FUCKING HILARIOUS — ❞ his arms dropped,  ❝ and sad. ❞

               joker spun around, his tattered coat flowing behind him as he resumed his pacing — yet, with even more fervor than before. ❝ no. no. no. no. no. no. NO. ❞ each repetition of the word corresponded to another step. ❝ no one is allowed to get hurt for me, ever. that won’t do — i won’t allow it. no bleeding, no scratching, no crying, no worrying. why doesn’t anyone understand i don’t want it? ❞ and then he stopped, shoulders slumping as if the raven’s energy left him all at once. ❝ i think, ❞ joker began again, ❝ there’s been a misunderstanding. my teammates are — well, they’re just the best, you know? ❞ he didn’t deserve them. he didn’t. ❝ and because of that, they think i’m someone worth protecting? that’s the funny part, though! ❞

               he spread his arms wide. ❝ i would die for them a hundred times over! ❞ joker shouted, as the crowd erupted into noise. ❝ i’d gladly become the shield that protects them from everything bad in this world! i would thank them for the opportunity! ❞ he took a bow as the audience alternated between tossing bouquets and rocks. ❝ after all, that’s the only thing i’m good for. ❞

🎁 A silver medium sized silver pendant with a silver ladybug hanging off the corner of it. Marinette's name is engraved on the bottom. Upon inspection of the pendant, Marinette would notice that there were several imperfections that were sloppily hidden. An indication that this was created by an amateur. On the back was more engraving, only this time it was a short phrase. "I'll always be with you."

As soon as Marinette opened the box, blue eyes took in the sight of the pendant wholly. Lynette would have been able to notice that there was a slight stiffening at the small charm attached to the pendant, an obvious thought passing through the younger hero’s mind at the shape. Most of the time, she kept herself from wearing any of the emblems or colors, not to draw attention to herself, but as the girl looked at the other facets of the piece, it was clear to see that she eased instantly. 

After all, how could she not love and accept it when it was her older self that had gone through the tedious process to make it for her? The ladybug was something that not only linked them, but was a part of them. There was nothing that could ever change that, and Marinette wouldn’t have given the world for it to be changed. 

Brushing her fingertips over the engraving and the jewelry as a whole, she was able to see the small flaws, but they were something that she loved about it. Even after all the years, the practice, the fighting, they were never going to be perfect, the two of them. Even still, the small corners caught light, making it shine. 

That was their gift, wasn’t it?

Pulling it out of the box, Marinette flipped it over, seeing the final engraving, and despite every urge not to, tears began to form at the corners of her eyes. “Yes.” She whispered in response to the message, taking the chain and placing it over her head, allowing the pendant to hang around her neck. Placing the box down, the girl crossed the small threshold between her and Lynette, and without another word, wrapped her arms around the older Ladybug. 

“I’ll always be here too.” Marinette murmured, burying her face in the older’s shoulder. “No matter how far you go, when you go, it doesn’t matter.” As each syllable fell, her grip became tighter around the other. “I’ll always be here, in your heart, right by your side.”

“I know this is something kinda random to ask a complete stranger, but...is this place always this crowded?” Even Maiami City wasn’t this congested and that was probably saying a lot! Everyone had to have in this area for a reason though, right? Though what for was obviously something Yuya had been left out of the loop on.
