Spotted Lady Beetle (Coleomegilla maculata) in Pinery Provincial Park, May 2017. This is a perfect example of why Common names are not as useful as Scientific names are. "Spotted Lady Beetle" could describe many of the more than 6000 species included in the Lady Beetle family, Coccinellidae. Spotted Lady Beetle (Coleomegilla maculata) in Lambton Shores, October 2018. Both as adults and larvae, these Lady Beetles consume pollen from flowers, which can sometimes make up 50% of their diet. Other foods include aphids, mites, and insect eggs.
