As we approach the end of a difficult year, I’m getting requests for lavender essential oil bars that #soothethesoul. This batch will be going to a natural foods market in #NYC. For soaping techniques, I accelerated the trace of the charcoal and purple mica colorants with castor oil, while keeping a thin trace for the white background. Lightly manipulating the swirls using the “hanger method” achieves a more modern ink-stained look. Here in the #PacificNorthwest, it’s perpetual rainy season. While some choose to hide from the drizzle and wallow in the misery of being vitamin D deficient, others finds ways to create joy and spread happiness to others. An incredible lady friend is ordering 40 custom bars to send out to each of her closest loved ones. She wanted something light, green, and fresh. So in this first batch, I made a unique and modern bar to represent her lovely spirit. Scented with green-apple fragrance, she’s aptly calling these bars: “Fresh Tart”. Before the pandemic struck, I had the opportunity to visit my friends @nowornevercoffee in SoHo, NY. I shared stories with them over a cup of their delicious signature turmeric latte, and watched the constant traffic of artists, professionals, students, frontline workers, and service providers bustling in and out of the doors. Each customer came and went with a different agenda. But for a moment in their day, @nowornevercoffee provided a welcome respite from life’s callings. The character and soul of a city depends on the survival of small businesses. They are the places where memories are made, new friendships are created, and old friendships (like mine) are rekindled.
