thanks for the ask!! let me tell you about EVAN’S TERRIBLE FRIENDS, aka the jay hill crew:

• kingston sharpe – just ‘sharpe,’ because he’s a jrotc kid to the core – is the brains of the jay hill crew, by which i mean he has approximately one more brain cell than the rest of the crew combined, which is none; he’s supposed to be a ‘role model’ to his younger siblings, and he did boy scouts at one point but he stopped because he got bored; he stops doing most things because he gets bored; his parents think he’s dating paige but he’s very much aromantic; his plan is to join the army and get out of jay hill as soon as he’s graduated high school, if not earlier

• rafael medina, ‘rafa’ but only to his friends, the essence of chaotic energy that is the heart and soul of the jay hill crew; he claims ownership of 51% of the terrible plans the crew tries to enact to have fun and pass time; no matter what he does, though, he has a heart of gold and would never intentionally hurt a fly; probably the gentlest member of the crew, and acts as their moral compass when things head south; he and sharpe were best friends first, but then they added evan and paige in middle school and the four of them have been inseparable since

• paige hazard, ‘one of the boys,’ she started out as a tomboy addition to the group but in recent years has embraced the fact that she is 100% a butch lesbian; whatever terrible plans don’t belong to rafa usually belong to paige; the worst ones (like when they tried to spray-paint the highway sign leading into jay hill;; to make it ‘gay hill’;;) are nearly always her brainchildren; her parents don’t know exactly what she does but they support her every step of the way; she wants to be a professional artist and has had a few pieces submitted to very small local galleries

one my work ethic! I’m v hard-working and I value it a lot in others; you reap what you sow. I think the only way you’ll be happy and achieve the life you want is through ambition/strength to go find/make it yourself.

two my ability to be friendly/make others feel at ease! I’ve had some people tell me they think I’m the kind of person to make eye-contact with someone ignored in a group so they know someone is listening, and I really enjoy being that person and hope I can continue to do so!

three my morality! I have a very strong sense of right and wrong and I’ve been a tattle-tale or wtv before bc I tell on cheaters, etc. This works hand in hand with my work-ethic bc I don’t like being unfair—I also think it’s terrible for the self to be immoral.

four my sense of aesthetics! idk I just really enjoy beautiful things and it’s kind of relaxing to find/relish in objects/vibes around you you enjoy? Idk if that makes sense, I hope it does

five let’s say my endurance/determination! Mentally and physically I like to believe I’m quite strong, and I romanticize it now but esp as a kid, I love how I constantly was getting hurt/bruised but I just kept getting right back up again! Almost self-assured that way, ig.

1. (most): Tied between Jozefa and Gyorgy, Gyorgy because he’s always annoyed with the government and Jozefa because her life philosophy is “be gay do crimes.”

2. Sophie, if it was for a just cause.

4. Andras, who is not good enough at math to actually do tax fraud but would consider it.

5. Marta, who is generally quite law-abiding but also chaotic.

6. Ilka, the most well-behaved Kiraly.

7. Ludwig, who much like Chidi from The Good Place is constantly desperate to do the right thing and therefore cannot be dishonest.

aha... what a fun question... that has no connection to the plot of AMT... because it would be silly if someone actually committed tax fraud in my modern shakespeare retelling... haha... ha.

1) INDRAJIT i’m throwing him under the bus right now. indrajit would commit tax fraud on a whim and slowly tangle himself into a years-long conspiracy that he can’t get out of because he keeps escalating the situation in an attempt to get out of trouble. i have an amt AU where indrajit and amanda as adults are actual macbeth-style murderers but the entire thing is played for comedy. “just like breaking bad,” indrajit says, staring morosely into space. “yeah <3,” says amanda, who has never seen breaking bad and never intends to

aldebaran: tell us about a significant historical event that shaped your world. In the Red Comet series, the Tanaka-Jurai Civil War. Before then, Kongbei-Hu and Mikaizu lived in relative peace, though tensions tended to fluctuate depending on the personal disposition of the heads of the two clans. The war brought out the worst of both sides and almost tore all of Tenruon’ou’s society apart, with picking sides. It also prompted the Royal Family to begin taking a far more active role to mediate between the two families, as previously they would stay out of it.

In the Memoirs of a Goddess series, the rise of monotheistic religions. Unlike Red Comet, MoaG is based in our world, including historical events. The change in human society from polytheistic to monotheistic was huge as it changed countless cultures and also affected the Gods themselves. They didn’t disappear as Gods don’t poof out of existence just because humans don’t worship them, but it did signify the beginning of the slow decay of the magical energies within the world, the stratifying of the mystical and mundane planes of reality and the eventual rise of secularism which further accelerates this dimensions eventual stagnation and death.

celaeno: are there gods? what are their stories? In the Red Comet series, there are 8 Gods; Zoleko, the God of the Sun, Tsakiri, the Goddess of the Moon, Molak’u’shiir, the Masked Muse, Fareh’ai, the God of the Afterlife, Haakshul, the Being of Death, Seressia, the Goddess of Time and Fate, The Void who is the Creator of All and finally Alohirona, the Shadows and Destroyer of All.

The Void, as a divinity, is not worshiped and few know of its existence. Those of the Far North are known to worship it and keep this knowledge secret. Alohirona, also, is not worshiped save by heretics who are part of the Cult of Rebirth, alongside Tsakiri, and by Demons. Haakshul came into being once Death became a principle of existence and Seressia came into existence when humans were created. Molak’u’shiir  is the only case of a human becoming a God after being melted back into ether and combining with a divine object.

In the Memoirs of a Goddess series, all Gods exist. The Greek Theoi, the Shinto kami, the Egyptian Nerteju, the Abrahamic God. The all exist simultaneously as reality spans infinite dimensions. There are also Gods that don’t exist in our dimension but do in others.

That being said, the myths that humans have for these Gods are not always right. Sometimes, their domains are wrong, their chastity status, the children they sired, etc. An example I’ll give specifically for MoaG is Hestia. She is not chaste. She has had a few children but they are so rare due to, in the throws of passion, she tends to become fire as is her more natural form and burn her lovers to death. Because her children are so painfully rare, humanity assumed she was a chaste Goddess.

Another is Hades and Persephone. The reason they do not have children with one another is because of Persephone, not Hades. Due to giving all her fertility to the Earth, when she spends her time in the Underworld she is infertile. By the time her fertility both in body and powers has been replenished, she must return above to help bring Spring. But Hades himself, is actually fertile. But due to the King and Queen of the Underworld never having children, it was assumed by humanity the blame laid with him.

So since you were asking about people's WIPs, here's one of mine! It's still pretty early in development, but it's a Cinderella retelling where the main character is a fairy godmother-in-training, and has to create a happy ending in order to become a fully-fledged one. Trouble is, her goddaughter Ella is found dead at the ball, and the MC ends up having to solve her murder (with the help of a cursed prince and a cynical detective who specializes in this kind of stuff)

a murder mystery fairy tale??? sign me up! man, good luck finding a happy ending for that one. seems like a challenge. i’m looking forward to reading about this, truly!
