Sew News, Spring 2021
It’s spring at least in print if not out my window, and if you make things you know you need to get started early.
The cover project here in the print fabric is the reworking of a sewing pattern adding collar and altering sleeves, so if you don’t like that exact project, it should give your courage to alter some other patterns too. The blouse in green is the upcycling of a men’s shirt and again, if you don’t want the blouson look, consider what else you can do with a men’s shirt. Often they are of more substantial materials than women’s blouses, they are cut amply, they often only wear out at the cuffs or collar, so women have been reworking them into everything from aprons to children’s wear for decades.
The directions for the pillow and the two bags--one of rope, one of painted leather--plus that funny little avocado pouch are included in this issue as well. In addition, there are features on makers, reviews of products, and articles on measuring and on drafting godets--those little pie shaped wedges that can give a flare to a skirt.
