Spring Blossom
Ganjiakou, Beijing 2023
May 15 - First Warm Day
and sunlight! Sunlight all day. Trees have leaves, the grasses beside the sea are turning green.
Hope springs ...
57F
April has been days and days of 57 degrees Fahrenheit (about 13C), and it is a curious temperature. If there is a north-east wind and no sun, 57F requires wool from head to toe. If there is a south-west wind and sunlight, one longs for the t-shirts and flip flops that are still packed away.
Snowdrops have come and gone, and daffodils are in bloom all over the Island. Forsythia is coming into bloom, and there is a hint of rose-pink on small hardy azalea shrubs. Beach plum shrubs have tiny green buds for the leaves that come before the blooms. The sea is turquoise near the shore on warm days, but spring winds frequently cause it to rush and roil and splash about, deep gray-green and frothy.
Tomorrow is Easter, and this is spring on the Island.
