As we enter the season for negative mindsets, here are some reminders:
If there is someone in your life that brings you down and you’re not required to talk to them, then don’t talk to them. Even if it’s a friend and hearing about their amazing life is bringing you down, it’s okay to take a little break from them to clear your mind. That doesn’t make you a selfish person, it makes you smart and aware of yourself.
Or if they’re just a toxic person overall, cut them off. You’re not required to keep somebody in your life, even if they’re blood relatives. This is your life, and you decide who gets to be in it.
If a TV show is bringing you down, take a break from it. Even if there are aspects you really love about it, don’t keep watching it if it’s triggering to you.
Do something different. Maybe take a different route to school or work. Go to a store you’ve never been to before. Try changing up your routine just a little, and it could change your mindset as well.
Get some exercise. Maybe some yoga, or even just a walk around the neighborhood can help. Even small movement is better than no movement and can almost instantly improve your mood.
Eat healthy foods. Make sure you’re getting enough fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins! Even if you’re craving fast food, try to avoid it as it will make you feel sluggish and will only feed into that negative mindset. The hardest part of eating healthy is actually getting yourself to eat healthy.
Stick to a regular sleep schedule. Don’t just rely on caffeine to give you energy. Your body and mind need proper rest.
Social media can be toxic. If you find that after scrolling through social media you get put in a negative mindset, then take a break from it. Delete the apps from your phone. Turn off notifications. Log out of your account on your browser.
Comparing yourself to others is rarely a positive thing. Don’t compare your progress to other people, but rather to your previous self.
It’s okay not to be better than you were yesterday.
It’s okay to cry. It doesn’t make you weak, it makes you strong. Showing your emotions is vulnerable, and not a lot of people are brave enough to do so.
It’s okay to listen to sad music. You don’t have to force yourself to listen to something happy if you’re not in the mood to.
It’s okay to feel what you’re feeling. It doesn’t make you bad or annoying, it just makes you human.
Just remember that you’re not the only one, and what you’re feeling won’t last forever.
