🌱It's finally the time of the year to post this reminder! Well-intentioned humans kidnap fawns every spring and seperate them from their mothers. 😔Please don't do this!! Deer start delivering their newborns in April-June! Sometimes they deliver in the strangest of places. People may find them and be concerned about a newborn deer on their lawn, in their garden, under the azaleas, etc. Sometimes concerned humans think the fawn is in peril and Mom has abandoned it. The fawn isn't abandoned, even if it's crying. Mom is actually off feeding and helping to keep predators away. It is REALLY IMPORTANT that HUMANS leave the fawn alone. Do not approach, touch, move or attempt to feed it. Deer are NOT like horses. They do not have their legs under them immediately and need time to rest after birth. Horses get up and go that's the sign of a healthy horse. A healthy fawn will curl up, nap most of the day and mostly move their heads. They have no scent and predators cannot find them unless humans interfere. Mom leaves during the day for 2 primary reasons: to feed, and to keep her scent a distance from the fawn. Mom will come back (unless in the rare event something tragic happens to her), but don't expect her until dusk, sometimes later and certainly don't expect her to return if humans are hovering around. (She can smell, see, hear and sense you!!) If you are fortunate enough to have the gift of a fawn please enjoy the experience from a distance, respect Mother Nature and let Mom do what comes naturally. She will move the fawn daily so you may see them in different areas. Please leave Mom & baby undisturbed!!
