H-4 Hercules, aka Spruce Goose
1980s at the Port of Long Beach in California, featuring two famous historical transportation icons located next to each other.
RMS Queen Mary: The ocean liner, permanently docked in Long Beach since 1967, served as a hotel and tourist attraction.
Spruce Goose: The Hughes H-4 Hercules flying boat is pictured docked nearby, where it was displayed in a geodesic dome from roughly 1980 to 1992.
Geodesic Dome: The large, white dome structure was built specifically to house the Spruce Goose for public viewing.
Current Status: While the Queen Mary remains in Long Beach, the Spruce Goose was moved to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in Oregon in 1992.
