It’s incredible to think that this time last year our company’s entire existence consisted of a powerpoint presentation and some high hopes. Thanks in huge part to your support and help, we are just about to launch the recruiting process for a new cohort of farmer-entrepreneurs who will make up Season 2 in Brooklyn!
Our Season 1 entrepreneurs are a daily inspiration (check out this great video from Curbed to watch their typical day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVrlypadLos). If you know anyone who wants to follow in their footsteps, send them my way!
More specifically, here are some easy ways you can help.

Some press and community highlights:
Summer so far has been good for press coverage. Some highlights include:
Wall Street Journal, on our aim to bring "local food to global scale" through a distributed network of modular farms, delivering a proposition to the consumer that can be best described as "if you know your farmer, you trust the food": https://www.wsj.com/articles/some-urban-farmers-are-going-vertical-1496692326https://www.wsj.com/articles/some-urban-farmers-are-going-vertical-1496692326?mg=prod/accounts-wsj
Reuters, with an incredible multi-media piece that follows our farmers across a typical working week: http://reuters.com/article/us-brooklyn-farm-idUSKBN18X19I
ABC Television, with a heart-string-tugging piece on farmer-entrepreneur Paul Philpott and his clever social-entrepreneurship model that brings healthy greens to low income housing neighborhoods across NYC: http://abc7ny.com/society/watch-part-3-of-above-and-beyond/2132807/
Meanwhile, we’ve held several great community-building events on the farm across June, including:
Summer solstice dinner, with our friends at Brooklyn Foodworks: https://twitter.com/squarerootsgrow/status/878677202312626176
Refugees Welcome dinner, bringing refugees and non-refugees around a table to break bread and break barriers: https://twitter.com/loveforrefugees/status/880908817671880710
Our monthly Open House Farm Tour, which gets bigger every time. This was my view in June: https://twitter.com/tobiaspeggs/status/880053912333565952
Want to visit the farm? You can sign up for this month’s Open House Farm Tour here: https://www.meetup.com/Square-Roots-Urban-Farming-Community-NYC/ We’d love to see you! Or if you have an idea for an event you’d like to host here, just hit me up.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. And just shout if you have any Qs.
