Morpheus: I am the King of Dreams and Nightmares. Everyone: And what about it?
*Morpheus and Matthew in Hell, realising Squatterbloat is gone*
Matthew: "Okay, don't panic, I'm just gonna fly up and see where we are."
Matthew: *flies up and sees the mutilated people on the trees of suicide*
Matthew:
An interesting fun fact about this scene. In the original comics, it was Etrigan (Yes the Etrigan the demon) who led Dream to Lucifer and not Squatterbloat. Both Etrigan and Squatterbloat are high ranking demons in Hell and they speak in rhyme as a result.
“There’s one at the door, at the gate to damnation … is it thief, thug or whore? There’s one at the door … and there’s room for one more ‘til the end of creation”
When Dream gets insulted, he speaks back in a language Squatterbloat truly understands:
“So where’s your Ruby?”
“Shall I use it to haunt your dreams and your waking hours too?” Or will you open the Gates of Hell and let us through?”
We’re not talking about the “Yes, my clown.” moment enough. I mean, you’re the Dream Lord, Lord Morpheus, Dream of the Endless. You control and make both Dreams and Nightmares, wielding unimaginable power. You radiate an air of utter confidence and command absolute respect. And one of the first things said to you by a denizen of Hell, by the equivalent of Hell’s butler, is “Yes, my clown.” What a massive fucking power move from Squatterbloat. Cannot imagine how off-putting that was for Dream
morpheus listing out his titles and squatterbloat responding with just “lmao yes my clown.” so iconic
