She might be a little tense still but she looks good! I’m sure you’ll have her at going great in no time.
Yeah, riding is very stressful for her. She likes to stop and spin and rear in every corner and before wouldn't even walk so huuge improvement, haha. I actually felt safe on her today.

Iol no way in hell I'll convince my mom to get another horse. well... won't convince my dad, anyway. It's just so weird that she's so close. When I rode the school bus, I went past that farm every single day and now that I think about it, I do remember seeing her in the pasture. They also had a mule and one or two little ponies.
What's even crazier is that a long long long time ago, like LONG time ago, I went to that same farm to try out a black and white paint mare lol. I think her name was Princess though, and she wasn't a Walker so it's not the same horse. Small world, though.

Wait so what do they do?
Wendy has them on her website here and here is her description which is a million times better than mine:
"this revolutionary way of improving your horse’s balance, confidence, movement and performance shows that the horse is always present and ready to learn if we can only find ways to access his intelligence. This approach allows the horse to experience his own habitual patterns of movement and provides the horse with an opportunity to explore and learn new ways of standing on his feet and utilizing the ground for greater ease, comfort and confidence.
With SURE FOOT, using a variety of stability and balance pads, horses discover how they are habitually standing. The pad give under the horses’s weight bringing his attention to where he is placing his feet and providing new information to the balancing part of his nervous system. With this awareness the horse explores, shifts and alters his habitual patterns of standing and moving by himself, ultimately choosing a more secure and effective way to stand and move. The horse retrains himself to stand better without human interference.
In addition to reprogramming the balancing portion of the brain there is obviously an affect on the instinctive part of the brain. While it cannot be fully explained there is a calming effect, shifting the horse from the fight & flight reaction or sympathetic autonomic nervous system (ANS) response to the grazing or parasympathetic (ANS) response. Some horses experience an even deeper level of relaxation believed to be caused by a release of endorphins somehow triggered by standing on the pads." [x]
So these pads are made of foam. you basically offer for the horse to stand on the pad, giving them the choice to actually stay there or move off the pads. you can use them to evaluate how heavily the horse loads on each foot as well as what part of their hoof they load more weight on. While they're standing on the pads you can actually see them sway around and move their weight and adjust and begin to balance. The pads are a suggestion/offer for the horse to try different muscles and is actually relieving. while they're on the pads the horses almost all fell asleep and were relaxing, lowering their heads and licking and chewing.
You can stack the pads for horses that load heavily on one side, which is what she did with helmert, who is an older dressage horse who loads heavily on his front left leg. She stacked two pads under his front left hoof and let him sit with it, you could literally see him moving his ribcage and rebalancing the muscles in his chest.
I seriously think you could post "Hi." and get hate for it. Why do people have such a big problem with you?! Walk away anons! Just walk away.
I bet I probably could...
I don't really know what I did but cLEARLY it was something huge...do you remember it? I don't.
They can try as haaard as they want to bully me into anything but they won't succeed. I may not have a lot of confidence in myself but I'm not going to let myself be pushed into a corner by anyone. Ever.
I'm quite finished with being the left-behind and stepped-on one. (:
To the anon with the hard mouthed mare - mechanical hackamore's can be good for horses that get hot but can't have a stronger bit for whatever reason. They can be quite harsh when used with very strong hands, so I would definitely recommend trying.(:
^
Anon - most ponies can actually be jumped like horses, as long as they are conformationally sound and happy. Just ponies typically max out lower than horses. I rode a pony who could probably jump 4'6 with ease if he wasn't such an idiot, so it just depends on the horse or pony and how they are built. Some horses probably couldn't jump 3" consistently without falling apart, so you just have to be educated in your decisions. (:
Yep! ponies are tiny but they have a lot of ability in those tiny bodies.
It just depends on the horse. Fly is sound and I jump him consistently so he'll be just fine.
also sometimes i'll be lazy and we'll go a week without jumping, so it's not like i constantly force him to jump.
