Why would you ship Nicaise and Laurent? Not judging, just kind of curious.

You’re alright anon! Honestly I think it boils down to: their characters have a great chemistry, they play off each other so well, and the past and trauma they share binds them together in this weird, convoluted solidarity, so my mind just wants to explore that, and the kind of relationship that can be created from that. It wouldn’t necessarily be healthy, or it certainly wouldn’t start that way, but as a CSA survivor who really wants to get into the head of other CSA survivors, I see so much gritty potential here and i really love it. For a softer take, adding Damen to the relationship to balance these two out would only ever end in a fuckin happy ass ending, so I dig that too.

 I don’t really want to get into anything underage, but an older Nicaise who re-appears after many years of everyone assuming he’s dead, at the end of his rope, clinging to his last hope that Laurent will make good on his promise and take up his contract, give him a place to stay, food to eat, the safety he’s been missing his whole life, and them falling into this strange closeness, where Nicaise constantly pushes the boundaries, constantly gets under Laurent’s skin, just seems really fascinating to me. There’s a lot you can do with it, there’s a lot to explore psychologically, and their sexual dynamic could be super duper fuckin interesting, too. (Nicaise topping Laurent, anyone?)

So yeah, I get why its controversial, but i just love the idea of it, there’s a lot to explore. They’re both very fuckin interesting characters (plus the existing works for them are BRILLIANT)

Regent/Nicaise

Y’all know my weakness, add the Regent and you might legitimately squick me out.

LISTEN this is a really fucking uncomfortable pairing, especially cos Nicaise is,,,,, you know,,,, a fucking CHILD. I would be like,,,,, really fucking shooting myself in the foot if i said anything other that EW NO NOTP.  Honestly there is possibly even more naaaaaaasty potential here than Laurent/The Regent, though maybe not as much ‘upsetting’ potential. Nicaise deserves fuckin better lbr.

The first thing I thought of though when i read this was that one Nicaise character study i read, and i really enjoyed that, the psyche of his character is really fucking interesting, so from an explorative perspective i can get its necessity. But can anyone like actually ship this?? I find it the opposite of shippable :’)

This is dark as fuck, and i really kinda dig it. It’s not a ‘happy’ pairing, but the potential for this (And i’m starting to realise every fucking pairing boils down to its fic potential) is really nice. Fuck Kevin up kids, theres no happiness anywhere :’)

Gotta say, If i was gonna read Rikev I would ultimately love it to end in Kandreil (just so everyone can be fucking happy) so in that regard I can’t say like I’d ship it or even really get into it by itself, but it gets a solid okay/i’d definitely read it if it was recced to me.

They’d bring out the best and worst in each other, cos they’d be the only people who really understand each other. I apparently have a thing for people with shared trauma being both terrible together, and ultimately inevitable. I like angst, is what we’re learning today.

I knew it! First trick to get towards notp’s is send a straight ship

OK LISTEN straight ships aren’t inherently bad or NOTP for me, I just find ‘unnecessary straight ships that cropped up out of nowhere with very little to no chemistry before hand’ cringey, often because it comes at the cost of the development of the female character, and also because the whole thing feels so contrived i spend the whole time rolling my eyes instead of actually trying to see why the fuck anyone thought it was necessary. Though that might just be Whedon’s fault.

I tend not to like straight ships as a rule, because I just,,,,,,,, don’t relate to the female characters? That and the way the sex is written often,,,,,,,,, yeah i’m not a fan. I’m not a never say never kinda guy, i’ve just never gotten into them :’)

Its funny, I was trying to find a prompt that I could angle towards Nicaise for capri month, and Power was the only one that really stuck out to me. IT’S FATE I GUESS.
