Hi yes hello another late night post from me about story and character thoughts, I wanna talk about something really specific and meaningless this time, so hesr me out. I'm a ninjago 'fan', as in I watched it growing up, and I sometimes rewatch the first couple seasons when I'm bored or at my emotional limit, you know how it is, but I never do anything truly casually, so I've spent some time in the ninjago fanfic scene, and I've discovered something that has happened a strange number of times.

Obviously there's the episode in season 1 where Jay almost gets turned into a serpentine by Fangpyre venom, that's well known in canon, so Snake Jay fics are common, that makes sense. But, I've noted 7, maybe 8 fanfics where Kai is or becomes a serpentine, and these are odd to me for a few reasons.

Chief among them, well, why Kai? The other Ninja had significantly more connection to the serpentine tribes prior to the arrival of the Pyro Vipers later on due to each of the serpentine tribes having a bit of an elemental affiliation, and each one of the ninja having a dedicated 'enemy' tribe. Even including the Pyro Vipers, Aspheera is just an ancient Hypnobrai who stole Kai's fire, not an entirely unique serpentine tribe. But that's only half the intrigue.

What makes it more intriguing is that for most of these fics, Kai is an anacondrai specifically.

Now, I could assume that this is because, at the time most of these fics were written, both Kai and the Anacondrai had very mysterious backstories. We didn't know anything about Maya and Ray, nor the Serpentine War and how the Anacondrai in particular were fooled by Chen. But what I find kind of sad is that since we got all the fresh information here, we haven’t had any fics that actually acknowledge either one. And that's really harshin my vibe a tad, because if you can't tell, I like absurd takes on media and insane AUs that blow canon to shit.

I've got my own fic planned, but I'm still in beastars mode, and that will remain the case for a long damn time. So, I'm begging Ninjago Writers, or just people who want to take a stab at writing fanfic and happen to like Ninjago, if you've got the time and energy, tackle this concept. I wanna see you diverge that canon, do something fucking neat with it.

Legoshi was a weird sort of guy. Jack knew that. He’s known that for 10 years at this point. It was a strange combination of luck and skill that the most trouble he’s gotten in was getting kicked out after he sat on top of a figurative pile of bodies. But outside of that very, very narrow stream of luck, he’s never had a decent friend, outside of the few gangsters that thought he was cool, and with as little judgement as possible, Jack didn’t necessarily think they were the best thing for Legoshi. Tem was… an improvement. Maybe the biggest possible improvement.

The only thing that could make him better is if he didn’t encourage Legoshi’s delinquent habits. The social Isolation of being a hybrid, large-breed carnivore was bad enough.

Legoshi isn't the perfect, pure grey wolf his mom hoped to have. At some point, the social struggle he experienced because of this turned him into a stereotypical middle school punk. Unfortunately, the struggle doesn't go away. He just gets used to it.
