Ok, so I changed to mind. Instead of #squirrelseekschipmunk, I've decided to read this book, #theftbyfindingdiaries1977to2002. David Sedaris is still one of my inspiration authors. #Idavidsedaris #diaries #diaryentries

Day 15: OTP. If you've read the title story of David Sedaris' book, you'll know that things don't quite work out for the squirrel and chipmunk. My #onetruepairing would be that squirrel with the squirrel from THE PORTABLE VEBLEN by Elizabeth McKenzie. 📚❤️ #books #reading #bookish #booklover #bibliophile #booksandteacups #novelteabookclub #squirrel #theportableveblen #elizabethmckenzie #squirrelseekschipmunk #davidsedaris #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #otp

11 MORE QUESTIONS!!!
1. Who was the first band/singer you ever saw live?
The first band I ever saw live was Jimmy Buffet. My uncle took me and my sister when I was eleven as a consolation prize for my parents' recent separation. We had 'obstructed view' seats so I only saw the back of his head. My uncle said he really wanted a beer but that "beers are like potato chips, you can't just have one." The people standing behind us spilled their beer on us accidentally. I thought Jimmy Buffet was okay, but mostly it just made me sad because it reminded me of my family in the summer and my dad and how weird stuff was now.
2. What are you doing this summer?
I don't know. Right now I'm going home in a week and staying there for a bit, at least through my sister's graduation. I have a job nannying my dad's fiancee's grandkid, but I just got an interview for an internship at a nonprofit filmmaking collective. I would really love to go home for a while and be with my family, but I would also love to take advantage of that opportunity. I would be teaching free post-production workshops to underprivileged kids as a way of getting them interested in TV/media, which would be fucking awesome. It's a great organization: www.dctvny.org/about
3. Describe your perfect bagel. Are you a butter or cream cheese kind of person?
I am a vegan, so neither. However, there is a place called Tompkin's Square Bagels in the city (right next to Tompkins Square Park, near the cross-section of 11th and Ave A) that has the most amazing bagels and homemade vegan cream cheese. I went there every afternoon for lunch last summer and got a whole wheat everything bagel with tofu cream cheese, and they give you a huge schmear of cream cheese and don't skimp. And that's the most perfect bagel in existence, especially when you eat it in the park while talking to a man called Mambo who talks to you about the graveyard underneath your feet.
4. Tell me about something interesting you saw today.
Right now I'm sitting in the library in front of Shirley Caplan's paintings and they're so beautiful I want to cry, so that is something. It rained so hard that there was a flash flood warning for my area and that makes everything so green and beautiful and almost worth it.
5. What is your favorite book, and why? How many times have you read it?
This is a very good question, and it's really difficult to answer. My favorite book for most of my life has been Gone With the Wind. I think that Margaret Mitchell is a great storyteller and I have always identified with Scarlett O'Hara very strongly. I obviously have some issues with it as I grow older because of the whitewashed slavery and idealistic depictions of the South and I don't know if I would still claim that Scarlett and Rhett's romance is anywhere close to romantic. However, I still think that Scarlett O'Hara is a feminist powerhouse for her time, and I think that the reason I thought the romance was so beautiful was because he understood her and I often felt very misunderstood throughout middle and high school. I think that he clearly makes her very miserable, but I still think that their is something valuable in it because Scarlett has lived all of her life having different feminine ideals projected onto her by the men around her. Rhett allows her to be herself--the full, complex, paradoxical human that she is; and I think that was rare for women of her time and is still not necessarily 'normal' now. He allowed her to be a human being instead of Melanie, who I think represents feminine ideals. All of Scarlett's anger directed at her is actually just her anger at the patriarchy and anger at a society that prefers quiet, meek, kind women to those that are fierce and colorful. In the end, Scarlett realizes that she has misdirected her anger and that Melanie is actually a genuine person, and that there can be room for women of all personality types, and that our gender does not define our personality, and that she can allow herself to love a man even though overall men are horrible and patriarchal society has tried again and again to defeat her, so she vows to get Rhett back. I have read this cover to cover at least ten times, but I often go back and reread just my favorite parts.
6. Is there something or someone you love to hate?
No, I don't love to hate anything. I'm always very annoyed by myself by not being above hatred/jealousy when I'm hateful, so it ends up being a chain of guilt and sadness.
7. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Invisibility/forcefields, since they often go hand in hand. I think that would probably be every introvert's ideal power. It just seems so nice to be able to go through the day only talking to the people that I choose to, and never having to make small talk.
8. What is the last thing that made you cry?
Thinking about being separated from my boyfriend for the summer (maybe). Also, I cried last night just from being emotionally overwhelmed by how much I love my friends and how beautiful the music they make is.
9. What is your favorite font?
I prefer Georgia/Cambria.
10. Describe the last dream you remember having.
It was last night, and it is a dream I have repeatedly, where I am yelling and yelling at everyone around me but it comes out as a whisper, and it always gets to the point where I'm using every ounce of power and energy in my body to force out the words and express whatever emotion is inside, but it doesn't come out strong enough and no one listens. Everyone ignores me and laughs at my efforts.
11. Which side of a black and white cookie do you eat first?
I hate black and white cookies.
