Doesn’t hurt to have someone reliable to call when you’re bleeding out.

“Common...Answer the phone…”

Gwen leaned against the payphone, her hand was pressed tightly against her side.

“Hello?” A gruff voice answered.

“Troy, Lin’s dead.”

“Gwen? What are---” 

“Sharp killed her,” Gwen’s voice broke and she coughed, “He also shot me.” God, she felt dizzy and weak. “I’m kinda bleedin’ out right now.”

“What didn’t you call an ambulance?”

“Didn’t cross my mind,” she didn’t need to play twenty questions right now, “Come pick me up. Please.”

“...Alright. Where you at?”

“I don’t know...Some convenience store off the freeway?” Gwen slumped against the payphone. “Shit, just follow the burnin’ cars.”

“I’m on my way. Just do me a favour, Gwen.”

“Yeah?” Gwen felt so tired, maybe she should just---

“Stay awake for me.”

His voice sounded so far away. Everything felt so far away. She felt cold.

“I’ll try. It’s hard though…” She slid onto the ground, sitting up. “Can’t I just close my eyes for just a little?”

“No. Just listen to instructions for once in your life. Just listen to my voice, keep talking to me.”

“Fuck you!” she replied, “I do what I want.” She closed her eyes and fell completely to the ground. She let go of the phone.

“There she is. There’s my girl.” Silence. “Gwen? Gwen!!! Shit.”

It was black. Darkness. But it felt...Bumpy somehow. Suddenly there was a car dashboard. She felt a weight on her shoulders and warmth on her side. She didn’t feel so cold anymore. Everything still felt foggy and far away though.

“Where…?” She wondered out loud.

“I’m takin’ you to the hospital.” A voice that distinctly sounded like Troy answered back.

Oh.

“Thanks for findin’ me.” Gwen closed her eyes again.

“Yeah, no problem. We’ll talk later when you’re more lucid, alright?”

“Okay...I knew...I knew that I could rely on you.”
