A drone narrowly avoided crashing into a passenger plane flying over central London in July. Alongside the CNN article detailing the incident is a very interesting video regarding the research currently being conducted on behalf of the FAA.
Growing up with a pilot for a dad, I have always known that planes are fairly durable in regards to bird strikes. The 2009 Hudson river landing executed by Captain Chelsey Sullenberger was an abnormal occurrence as an flock of migrating Canadian geese simultaneously destroyed both engines.
Most bird strikes on passenger planes involve only one bird, and often times the striking bird is much smaller than geese are, growing up to 14 pounds each. The armor on the average airliner can withstand bird impacts of up to about 8 pounds, according to Maj. Gen. James O Poss.
In the video, he details the goal of the FAA: To see whether or not drone strikes are similar to bird strikes. Using computer generated models of the DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter, the most popular consumer drone, and smashing into aircraft grade aluminum, the FAA is currently gathering as much data as possible in order to learn more about this 21st century flying machine.

It's like a fucking soap opera whenever my dad comes home. My mom freaks out the night he comes home because the house isn't clean. No matter what happens it is never clean enough and then she goes on this whole ramble about how no one cares and all the things that we do wrong and how come we can't do them right. So now she is crying even more and all of the sudden anger builds and she is like a mad bull and starts threatening us and yelling. Its usually like this but this time she has gone to the extreme. She is now screaming she is going on strike. She is locking her room because the socks and all the clean clothes are in there and she gets extremely annoyed when my sister and I go in their in the morning to get ready for school. "can't i just sleep in?" "why didn't you do this the night before?". So now my mom is on strike and she is locking us out of her room and won't wake up Ella in the morning, she won't drive us anywhere, won't do anything for us, and won't help us with anything. I am actually kinda glad this is happening because truthfully I don't take up a lot of space or even make much of a mess. So nothing is really gonna change. Whatever.....
