Getting paramedics to a site of an injury can often be challenging if the stricken person is on top of a cliff, in a forest, or some other hard to reach place.
With the demonstration of a versatile medical drone in Bolton, Mississippi to the state’s governor and officials from the Federal government and United Nations, we finally catch a glimpse of the future of emergency medicine. Boasting an array of medical equipment, this drone adopts features from its primitive predecessors while also adding features of its own.
Most notably, the HiRO (Health Integrated Rescue Operations) drone features a live video feed from the site of the emergency directly to a medical doctor still in the hospital. Allowing for the deputizing of average citizens to act in the place of a doctor, HiRO cuts down the time it could take to receive medical attention tremendously.
The video below depicts a possible scenario that warrants the use of a HiRO drone. These drones would first be staged to fly in areas where EMT medical response time is the highest, but ideally HiRO’s will eventually cover 100% of the population.
