So I'm trying to use SRWE. And it worked the first time I did it. But I changed the dimensions, made it a little bigger and it's not working as well. My sim is black except her hair, her eyes, and a shadow of clothes. Have I pushed my computer too far? I had about 6 things in my tree the first time and now I only have 3.
It may be that you’ve pushed it too far and your graphics card isn’t processing the textures anymore. Rebooting should fix that if it’s the case (you may need to reboot the whole computer, not just the game).
Does your game run well at your chosen settings usually or does it struggle a little?
Most people can push it a little bit bigger, but be aware about dimensions: when you look at the numbers for 1920x1080px versus 3840x2160px it’s not immediately apparent that the latter is actually FOUR times the amount of pixels being rendered than the former. It looks like it should only be double the amount, right? That can trip people up if they think “hey, that’s not that much bigger.”
Every pixel takes power to render. Double the amount of pixels and it takes more power. Triple the amount and it’s even more. And so on. You need processing power to be able to render all those pixels, and at some point something is going to give.
I’m guessing you’ve read my in-depth tutorial on how to use SRWE? I explain in there that once you’ve found the sweet spot of what your computer can handle, calculate the megapixels of that resolution, and then you know your PC can usually always handle, let’s say 10MP in that particular game, which makes it easier and quicker to work out what other resolutions in different aspect ratios you can try.
