In 7th grade (once again) my friends and I would sing this all the time. Ik it’s like one of their most popular songs but it’s still amazing

4. O-Girl

NOT THE SAME AS O GIRLFRIEND. If you don’t know, this song was demoed and played at Weezer concerts during summer 2000. I love this one so so so much. I wish they would officially release it

[MAY 2025] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "Peace and Quiet" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

Via Weezerpedia, "Peace and Quiet" is a track from the Summer Songs of 2000 (SS2K) era which was performed live numerous times but never officially released. The recording that this tab was based on is one of their live versions—specifically, I believe it was the "extended" version described on Weezerpedia which features a duplicated second verse.

I find this track kind of interesting because, although it has the feel of a Maladroit (2002) track with its chugging chords, complex drumbeat, and lyrical content, it also does the thing from Green (2001) where the solo is is simply the vocal melody from the verses but played on guitar. I also really enjoy the dichotomy between the chugging/dissonant feel of the verses (and its complicated drumbeat) to the energetic, harmony-filled choruses (featuring a simpler, driving drumbeat with a snare hit on every beat).

[APR 2025] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "On The Edge" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

"On The Edge" is the third track from Weezer's demo album Summer Songs of 2000, also known as SS2K. According to Weezerpedia, this collection from 2001 consists of songs that the band recorded and performed live in 2000 as part of their comeback tour, and the album has a gritty, high-octane feel that is perfectly encompassed by "On The Edge", in addition to "Superstar"—another track from the LP that I tabbed out previously. It also features hits that would be incorporated into their later albums like "Hash Pipe" from Green (2001) as well as "Dope Nose" and "Slob" from Maladroit (2002).

The recording of "On The Edge" had a pretty poor fidelity which made it hard at times to make out the bass and guitars, although—like with "Superstar"—this was made up for by the simple composition, which (from what I could tell) only consisted of two distorted guitars, a bass, drums, and vocals. I've made that point many times before for other tabs, but it is still nonetheless something I appreciate, since it is surprising how many instruments some of Weezer's later tracks incorporate, which make them quite a doozy to deconstruct.

[AUGUST 2024] Songsterr tab for Weezer's "Superstar" has been updated, as per user request!

According to Weezerpedia, "Superstar" was a demo song performed live by Weezer in 2000, and later released in 2001 by Rivers as part of a demo album called "Summer Songs of 2000" (or "SS2K"). This demo album featured numerous new songs Weezer had performed as part of their summer-of-2000 comeback tour. Given that Weezer's Green Album from 2001 was recorded soon after, it makes sense that "Superstar" shares some elements present on many Green songs, like a guitar solo which basically just plays the vocal melody, and a composition which doesn't change from section to section (i.e., verse to verse, chorus to chorus). However, the song's fast tempo, shout-y vocals, lyrical content, complex drumbeat, and deviance from simple power chords also hearkens back to some of Weezer's high-octane demos from the 1990s, like "Paperface" and "Lullabye for Wayne".

The most difficult part of tabbing out this song was the electric guitars, which feature a lot of dissonance and string-bending during the verses. The song's audio quality is also on the poorer end, and given you can hear an audience begin to cheer at the end of the song, I wonder if this audio quality was because the recording was actually taken from a live performance. Regardless, I enjoyed this song's energetic feel and classic sound, which make it feel like a real snapshot of Weezer's catalogue in the early 1990's and early 2000's.
