[MAR 2025] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "The British Are Coming" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

"The British Are Coming" is the sixth track from Weezer's return-to-form album Everything Will Be Alright In The End (2014). This song is themed around the American Revolutionary War in both lyrics and composition, featuring a marching-snare intro with motivational speech and brief but unique acoustic hook. The Weezerpedia article for this album lists "The British Are Coming" alongside "Cleopatra" as fan-favorites from the LP, although from what I've seen, people seem to have a varied view on this song, with it falling near the top, middle, and bottom of different people's EWBAITE rankings. Either way, there still seems to be a general appreciation for this track and its place on the album alongside the other tracks which fit Weezer's classic sound. I particularly like its pseudo-half-time bridge, with some nice vocal harmonies, discordant chords, and fun solo.

For some reason, I thought tabbing this song would be a lot more difficult than it ended up being, with the composition being mostly consistent from verse to verse and chorus to chorus. My favorite part to tab out was the solo, since a live performance of the song on Youtube showed how Rivers progressively slides down the fretboard during the final part of the solo, achieving a descending riff through a series of alternating hammer-ons and slides.

this song fills the cracks in my heart with something so warm that it creates new cracks. it makes me long to grow old, although aging is a fear that every human faces. it creates the feeling that, getting grey hair and wrinkles, might not be so awful. as long as you have someone you love who ages alongside you.

[AUGUST 2024] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "Basketball" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

"Basketball" is the third track from Weezer's 2022 EP, SZNZ: Winter, which itself is the fourth and final EP of their seasons-themed SZNZ collection from 2022. As with Autumn, many fans loved the return-to-form that Winter brought, with tracks that hearken back to Weezer's classic power-chord-heavy sound. "Basketball" is one such track, featuring a basic rock drumbeat and unique power chord progression, in addition to some new switchups like occasional strings instrumentation and extra beats during the choruses.

Being in line with Weezer's earlier sound, this track features fewer overlapping tracks than their more poppy songs, as well as a more consistent composition from verse to verse and chorus to chorus. This made it made it easier to tab out than the song I did previously, "Feels Like Summer". However, the fifth chord of each chorus progression in "Basketball" tripped me up quite a lot, since it definitely didn't sound like a standard power chord, leading me to tab it out as an E-chord with an open C# string, which was the only thing that made sense and—in the end—seemed to lead nicely into the next chord of the progression.

[AUGUST 2024] Songsterr Tab for Weezer's "Feels Like Summer" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

"Feels Like Summer" is the third track from Weezer's pop-rock 2017 album, Pacific Daydream, and was also the first of two singles to be released for the album. Definitely one of the poppiest songs from this LP, this track features a wealth of overlapping vocals and synthesized instrumentation, as well as a sung "na-na-na" hook that evidently contributes to its earworm-y feel.

Due to its poppiness and significant use of synthesized instruments, this is probably my least favorite track from Pacific Daydream. However, I can still appreciate it's ability to be a well-written pop track that hits all the bases needed to be a good radio song. In particular, while writing the tab, I was surprised at just how much layering is present throughout its composition. For example, I never realized that the "na-na-na" hook is sprinkled throughout the entire song—not just in the start, end, and interlude. In addition, studio acapella and instrumental versions of the song which had been uploaded to Youtube by fans proved quite enlightening when it came to learning just how many vocal harmonies and backing instrumental tracks are present; they blended in so well in the mixing of the base song that it would have otherwise been easy to miss them when tabbing the song.

[JULY 2024] Songsterr tab for Rivers Cuomo's "Lisa" has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

"Lisa" is a demo that was released as part of Rivers' demo collection Alone III: The Pinkerton Years in 2011. In both lyrical content and composition, this track feels more like a Blue-era track akin to "Jamie" or "Susanne". However, its use of a talk box / vocoder effect during the solo reminds me of the Songs from the Black Hole demo "Blast Off", which makes me wonder if that partially influenced why some people thought "Lisa" was originally a part of SFTBH, according to Weezerpedia.

The lower audio fidelity of this track made it a bit harder to tab out, as it was sometimes hard to discern what each guitar was playing or what harmony Rivers was following with each vocal line. However, it was still fun to tackle, and I particularly like the key change during the solo and the somewhat calmer bridge section.

[JULY 2024] Songsterr tab for Weezer's "Lost in the Woods" (from "Frozen 2") has been completed and uploaded, as per user request!

"Lost in the Woods" is a song written (not by Weezer) for the soundtrack of the movie Frozen II from 2019; Weezer recorded a cover of the song for the film's ending credits, as well as taking part in a music video which recreates a scene from the film wherein one of the main characters performs the song onscreen. Designed to emulate rock ballads of the 1980s, this track features constant key changes and evolving chord progressions, as well as a piano-focused melody and an ending bridge/chorus with extensive vocal harmonies reminiscent of Queen. (The music video even references Queen's iconic floating-faces image from "Bohemian Rhapsody")

Given this is not a track originally written by Weezer, it proved rather challenging to tab out, since I could not rely on my previous familiarity with Rivers' writing style to help guide me while creating the tab. From what I could tell, the tuning is also quite strange—in order to achieve some of the really low notes on the bass guitar, I believe it had to be basically tuned to drop-C#; for consistency I reflected this tuning on the remainder of the instruments. All in all, I enjoyed the unique challenge of getting to tab out this song, and I think Weezer did a good job covering it!

[MAY 2024] Songsterr tab for Weezer's "I'm Your Daddy" has been updated, as per user request!

(This song's existing tab was incomplete and lacked a number of instruments, so I chose to rewrite it from the ground up.)

"I'm Your Daddy" is the second track from Weezer's oft-panned 2009 album, Raditude. While I also agree that this is one of Weezer's weakest albums, there are still a few tracks on it that I do not mind listening to, of which "I'm Your Daddy" is one. It's lyrical choice is peculiar—you won't catch me singing this one out loud—but I can appreciate how high-energy it is, and its power-poppy feel reminds me of a number of tracks that I like from Hurley (2010) for their similar high-octane vibes, including "Ruling Me" and "Brave New World".

Overall, the track's composition is on the simpler side of Weezer tracks, featuring guitars that stay distorted for all of the song, as well as bass, drums, vocals, and synth. The song is power-chord heavy with a simple drumbeat and repeating chord progressions. The only difficult part was the bridge, wherein the distortion initially led me to mishear which notes were being played; in this case, viewing "live" performances of the song helped the notes come through more clearly. (I say "live" because it was evident most of these performances were just Weezer pretending to play along to a prerecorded instrumental track that, for some reason, sounded clearer than the album version.)

[MAY 2024] Songsterr Tab for Weezer - "Pink Triangle" has been updated, as per user request!

(NOTE: Although this song already had a complete tab on Songsterr, said tab borrowed many elements of the bass, drums, and guitars from somewhat incorrect older versions of the tab, so I found it easier to rewrite the drums and bass from scratch while making major revisions to the guitars and vocals.)

"Pink Triangle" is the eighth track to Weezer's classic 1996 album, Pinkerton. This song embodies much of the emotional turmoil present throughout the album, and I love its traveling bassline, memorable main riff, and half-time bridge with a question-and-answer style duet between two guitars. I also love the octave chords present during the end of the song, which really helps to inject a lot of energy into the conclusion, as well as the subtle tempo changes during the interludes and after the solo that help keep things interesting throughout the track.

The most difficult part of tabbing out this track was the guitars, since the distortion obscures what notes are being played and made it necessary to refer to instrumental version of the song on youtube, as well as live recordings that help give insight as to what is being played. Not to mention, the bassline was rather strange since it features a lot of sliding between notes—something that is otherwise easy to miss. I was able to confirm the presence of these slides by looking at an old recording of a live Weezer concert where Matt Sharp clearly slides up and down the neck of his bass during parts of the song like the pre-choruses.
