fi's character development obviously means that sword spirits are not static beings and are capable of growth and change, but further than that, my personal theory is that the personality of a sword spirit's master is reflected, to some extent, in the sword spirit themself. like a nurture vs nature thing.

fi was created as a tool, and this is initially how she sees everything and everyone around her- cogs and gears in the goddess's plan. percentages, obstacles, assets. links influence on her throughout the games leads her to embrace her role not as the sword of the chosen hero, but as a friend and ally of link.

ghirahim, as the sword spirit wielded by Demise, is far more sadistic and self-important, but he still shares similarities with fi. he often accuses link of "getting in his way", he orders monsters to their deaths to further his own gosls; he also sees others as tools, obstacles, assets- the way Demise sees him.

what I'm saying here is ghirahim deserved better and I can fix him.
