Domnarski Farm race - win
This was my 3rd mountain bike race ever. After kicking ass at single speed-a-palooza a month ago, and suffering hard at Coyote Hill (Fairlee VT) the week before, I was HUNGRY FOR A SPOT ON THE PODIUM. Long story short…. I won the cat2 SS race by 1/2 a bike length- finishing in 1 hr. 3 min.
For me bike racing is primarily about pushing my physical limits and riding in new places. A hunger to win is settling in a bit more. As long as I don't shave my legs or swear off beer.. I'm cool with that.
The Domnarski Farm race course was in good shape. Temps were hot. I've never been before and didn't get a chance to pre-ride, but was able to show up a few minutes early to climb the first hill sweating profusely. After about 5 minutes climbing that beast, I descended back to the car and lightened my gearing a notch.
As a cat2 racer, I was only doing 1, 10mile lap so I didn't think much about pacing. I just went for it. Balls out for one hour.
Not much to say… (not a fan of race play-by-plays) ….
climbing by loads of cat2 geared riders- some playfully cursing me when they noticed the lack of transmission.
riding with Aaron Rossi, the #2 finisher, almost the entire race. We swapped places a lot, paced each other, and finished with a sprint to the end! Super exciting.
having my family there to see the finish and hang out on the beautiful farm.
I'll be back to Domnarski Farm next year. If the temps are cooler, cat1 for more miles and suffering.
