imagine a fic. post-LN4 pre-LN5, pov dream, and at first it just presents itself as kind of a competence-kink-esque dream/purpled smutfic, with references to dream finding purpled's defiant smirk and his sassy attitude appealing. purpled is also kind of unattached but that makes dream all the more into him I think, especially when purpled just kind of doesnt care about dream('s reputation) and that is very much the appeal and the point of it… the way that purpled just kinda treats him normally and dream realizing "oh shit I havent been treated Normally by some dude in a while. we shall have a spring wedding-"
and also a healthy amount of competence kink like I mentioned before. dude is a bedwars champion. dream appreciates that. and I think there's at least some part of purpled that also reciprocates this attraction because of dream also having a lot of skill.
but also, dream is particularly caught up on purpled's pretty golden hair - it's referenced maybe one too many times. anyways during the back half of dream plowing purpled into his mattress he gets struck with the cold realization that he is absolutely fucking him while picturing tommy in his place.
