It's about first Chinese immigrants who came to New Zealand. Lots of chinese people wanted start life in NZ as a miner. 499 people died by shipwreck in 1902. I was lucky to be there cz one of my old fella was the singer in that opera. He was one of Chinese ghost (David Whang) who acted as "adviser but never read" lol. U did so well bro. _________________________________________ As a Korean this tragedy reminded me of 'Sewol ferry tragedy in 2014', So I could more get into the show n felt for it. Protagonist is one of their great great son who tried to bring all of bodies back to homeland and so on... The opera was so young n modernized. Permorance was quite energetic n witty n sincere. Maori, Chinese instruments playing made opera so unique n exotic. This opera will show you about what happens n what they have done. And how we gotta live. They put everythings in it n made so well like they didn't wanna miss anything. So much efforts like artisan. They made tragedy into the great masterpiece. ancestor n new generations , Mother nature Earth , Sea , History, family , culture , conflict ,respect and root. There was perfoming artist who played flute n dance at the same time. Such impressived he was sprit itself. Well, everyone was sprits of nature. At the end, they performed Chinese ceremony ritual Put food n lit up incense n pray for ancestors in front of audience. We all seen what was happened, we understood their conflict n purpose, we all prayed for them to set them free. I was glad to join there and hope this ritual keep goes on for respect all of people n mother nature. Memories of u never gonna die. Life goes on. #bonefeeder #opera #shipwreck #tragedy #ssventnor #greatperfomance #oldnyoung #china #maori #ancestor #mothernature #nz #newzealand #sewolferrytragedy (at Auckland City)
