Something About St. Louis
If you're from St. Louis and you're poor [and especially if you're black] then there is a pretty good chance you've had some not-so-awesome interactions with the local police and the courts. To me it's a no-brainer why a person living their whole life under a system that aggressively strips them of not only their money but their livelihood and their dignity too would eventually resort to rioting. One thing certainly doesn't justify another but there is a visible correlation between poverty and injustice and eventually violence if you take the time to really look into it. [As opposed to so readily deriding and dismissing an entire group of people. Again.]
How it works is that if you live in certain municipalities in St. Louis you're pretty much guaranteed to be ticketed for something. This something can be as simple as going 3 miles per hour over the speed limit or as surreal as not having matching blinds on the windows of your house. After you get the ticket you're required to pay a steep fine and in many cases this fine is equal to a weeks pay.[Or more.] If you're poor and can't afford to pay the fine you're eventually going to be jailed. Chances are good that if you're arrested you'll lose the car you were driving and it's probable that you'll lose your job after not going in to work for the handful of days you're stuck sitting in jail.
Poor people have gone their whole lives being grabbed by their ankles and turned upside down so that the last nickel has been shaken from their pockets. It doesn't matter if you are a decent person with a family or a job or a college schedule or whatever. The court doesn't care about the citizens nearly as much as they care about stocking their fleet of cop cars with newest and shiniest vehicles like it was some public pissing contest or something. [It actually is a contest:]
