‘The Calling of St Mathew (detail)’, painted in 1600 by Caravaggio (1571-1610) for the Contarelli chapel in Rome which served a French speaking congregation in Rome at the time the painting was completed. The painting remains there to this day. St Mathew A/K/A Levi is recognised as a saint in The Eastern Orthodox churches, the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church, and the Anglican Church. In the western churches his saint day is Sept 21, in the eastern churches he is celebrated on November 16th or the 29th depending on the calendar being followed. Mathew is also mentioned in the Quran as ‘one of the helpers of Jesus’.
So in love with the fact that my church this summer is gonna be the Cathedral of St. Mathew the Apostle 😍😍😍
