I ultimately was distracted last night with the things that were making me sad and crashed to sleep instead of anime. Now that it's daylight I'm probably going to spend my day giving all or most of these titles a go. :)

college au where eren is in criminal justice and works late nights in the library or in the laboratories

and armin is in world studies with a minor in botany and can’t stay inside long enough to sit still

and mikasa is in law enforcement and keeps the two of them together, life and limb, while impressing her professors and working toward grad school as well (she dabbles in fashion when she has the time to herself but doesn’t mention it)

they meet at the diner down the street after school for milkshakes and to discuss their hopes of changing the world – eren has a grand idea of them all working together in a small section of a government to build and support their own town which they can keep safe

so in afternoons they meet by the duck pond to prep for exams and in the mornings eren brings mikasa French roast coffee, two sugars, and armin a latte with a pile of whipped cream. sometimes armin calls mikasa at three in the morning to ask her questions he hates to ask but make her smile. other times she interrupts eren’s classes to bring him outside and kiss him against the wall, for only a moment before walking away again. and eren has a habit of being very visibly seen from the windows running and shouting on the lawn, arguing out loud with himself as he practices shadowfighting (it’s very distracting). on the weekends mikasa makes them all pull their noses out of their textbooks and drags them to faires and carnivals and parks and concerts.

they are also regular visitors to the puppy therapy on campus.

armin and eren dorm together, and mikasa unofficially moves in as well. they stay up till two watching movies or reading aloud or playing board games that make them shout (and it’s really just eren, the other two have tackled him multiple times). they have snowball fights and swimming races and build treehouses and pillow  forts. armin fails a geography class, eren doesn’t earn a recommendation to the task force he wanted, and mikasa is too scared to admit she’s scared to ever send off her resume. but they bond together, and learn together, and when they all fall asleep sprawled on a mattress on the ground, eren’s head on armin’s chest and mikasa’s arm beneath them both with their legs all tangled, everything’s okay in the end.

micah is on my mind when the sky is gray and the mist comes over the trees like Deep Thoughts or when the skies are crowing-worthy-blue or when a child says something beautifully stupid that makes me cry from laughter or when god is pressing on my heart like the Great Good Thing he is or when i lay on the trampoline at night and look up at the stars and think about what it would be like to sleep among them and she is all of those things and more and there is so much white beneath the black
