🔥 villains

when you can immediately tell who character is the Unsympathetic Villain because they do or don't align with some extremely contemporary ideological position. hate that. the less contemporary the setting, the more annoying. if we have had no inkling of the sexual norms of your ye olde high fantasy kingdom, why is the villain the only homophobic one, and why are they homophobic in the same way as my uncle. this probably will make me dislike them but it often reads as a cheap tactic, not a natural way of building out the world through character.

not sure if you've seen but the new sony leaks indicate that jean is going to be one of the leads of the new wolverine game and that and general x-men insomniac title is also in development, do you have any thoughts 👀

I’m always pro Jean and pro more Jean content and always anti anything that links Jean to Logan, so I’m conflicted. But mostly excited, especially since I would love to see Jean take center stage in the X-Men game :)

6. Which saga is your favorite? 

OOH tough one. it's neck and neck between namek and cell but i think namek is just barely #1 overall. watching goku go ssj for the first time really gave me a sense of how sacred it was, and it was interesting to see how the Legendary™ super saiyan state was only achievable (besides the first one who destroyed himself in the process) by a saiyan with righteous anger over the death of a loved one! and of course this was triggered by krillin getting murdered in front of him, but goku suddenly owns the fact that he's saiyan here despite him pushing that heritage away since the beginning which is probably attributable by vegeta's dying wish to him shortly before. ALSO piccolo's homecoming to namek was one of my favorite parts, it's one of the first times he realizes that he's not cruelly alone in this world after his connection with gohan. the main point-- there's a LOT of really good character development in this saga :'3

7. Which saga is your least favorite?

i mean technically i've only watched 3 of them so far so i think after process of elimination it's saiyan saga lol. i don't dislike it tho it's so iconic! after everything everyone's told me about buu saga tho... that might change lmfao. BUT VEGITO

def right after saiyan saga lol but her hair during cell games is a close second tbh :3 (EDIT: I ACTUALLY KINDA LIKE HER HAIR IN SUPER)

do you ever think about twelve, trying to reconstruct his memories of clara, finding all these little holes in places he didn't expect because of clara's echoes across the centuries. realizing how long she was with and how much he was shaped by her without even knowing it.

Oh, no, I'd never thought about that before, but you're absolutely right.

And the Doctor's memory is kind of weird anyway - they can remember very small details about all sorts of things across hundreds of years but sometimes they completely forget entire events, not to mention the countless times pre-Clara that they were mindwiped. It might take Twelve a while to piece together that that's what was happening, that what he lost was a huge part of who he was not only in his current incarnation but throughout his whole life.

3. Are there any genres you will not read?

Horror - just not for me, I don’t like being scared.

6. Are you the type of person who will read a book to the end whether you like it or not, or will you put it down straight away if you’re not feeling it?

I don’t like abandoning books and tend to persevere just in case it turns around. That said, there have been books I have stopped reading or put aside, but it’s rare and generally once I’ve started I’ll commit until the end.

12. Do you need to finish a book before you can move onto the next one, or will you have multiple books going at once?

I do often have two or more books going at once - I try to read at least one non-fiction a month so will have that going concurrently with whatever novel I’m reading - often I’ll take the non-fiction to work to read in short bursts on my breaks and save the novel reading for home when I can devote more time to it. To elaborate on question 6, if I’m not enjoying a book or just not feeling it, I’ll often put it on hold and start a new one, then go back to the original book when I’m in the right frame of mind for it - sometimes this is the process of months or years, so there are always a number of books in the rotation.

24. Do you prefer happy endings or sad endings?

Happy endings, although I’m not adverse to a sad ending if it’s earned.

2 - Villains

Shego from Kim Possible

Kuvira from Legend of Korra was a really great and interesting villain

Probably an obscure choice, but Ma-Ma from Dredd was a properly brutal and scary female villain without falling into a lot of the unfortunate tropes, and I was actually really impressed with how she was written. Not what I expected from a hyper-violent dystopian sci-fi action movie, and definitely a pleasant surprise

Morgana from Merlin deserved better, but she was also a really interesting tragic villain

Rita Repulsa from the 2017 Power Rangers movie was just great fun

Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager is a Fave. I’m always a sucker for the “outside perspective on humanity” characters

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has my favourite version of Janet van Dyne, aka the Wasp, because she’s just fun

Alex Blake from Criminal Minds is my favourite autistic Nerd Mum, and I always love it when she gets dorkily enthusiastic about linguistics

I’m very fond of Mako Mori from Pacific Rim
