Bookbinding: the gift you want to keep on giving

2025 has been the year that I got back into bookbinding - and what is craft passion without turning it into gifts?

One of the items that has always fascinated me is photo albums. The old ones, with tissue paper between the pages, that hold memories from great-grandfathers until today's generation. So I decided to make some for some friends who are now starting their own families 🤍

These are far from perfect (especially since I couldn't find tissue paper of big enough size that was not folded, and even ironing did not remove all the creases), but I was pretty happy with the results. Materials and techniques used are:

Stab binding with jute thread (treated with a mixture of beeswax and camellia oil)

Paper is medium grain drawing paper, 220gsm

Endpapers are textured cardboard, ~165gsm

Covers made with untreated cotton-based fabrics; clouds were accented in gold with fabric paint.

Closure is a regular satin ribbon

I made this notebook for one of my dearest mutuals, and I’m just over the moon with how it has turned out!!

Japanese Stab bound with waxed thread, and a spade & heart bookmark for keeping track of all our favourite board games sweet nothings ✨

The pages are custom printed for this book, with little uno card detailing in the corner!

This was a pleasure to make and I can’t wait for it to be in the hands of its new owner!

Though I hear Parker has a few notes he’d like to add before it ships…

This is a simple notebook made out of plain looseleaf paper. It’s a test/prototype for a project i have cooking for next year sometime, but i really love how it turned out.

The star stitch pattern was created by the brilliant artist and type designer Becca.
