We haven't ever really talked tbh, but I adore your writing, and find your interpretation of the Gilbutt to be really high quality and compelling, from what I've seen. I'm not exactly a great fan of Gilbert??? But I'm always reading what you write IC, just because I find it so enjoyable to read and you //make// me interested in him. You're really talented and even though you may not be online on this blog much, I still find your blog to be a real treasure here! I hope you had a great day btw ^^

man i need to reply to this now that we’re acquainted

this is possibly the best thing that can be said about my interpretation of gilbert, as i put all of my effort into his development. if i could make at least one person interested in him, i feel i have completed one of my own personal goals. i feel that gilbert is a character that is barely delved into enough, and i’ve strived to truly explain the nature of his existence. i just can’t put into words how complex his character is, and to this day the only reason i’ve kept this blog is to further expand on this.

# 9 - Does your character dream or are their nights filled with an empty blackness? Describe a dream they’ve had or a night they couldn’t sleep and what they did to preoccupy their time.

I'm gonna do both because I love myself.

Linked spoilers and ( linked ) triggering content ahead.

Gilbert experiences both nightmares AND nights of empty blackness, both often associated with countless events that have occurred in his life. These include, but are not limited to :

Oz's first ( + second ) coming-of-age ceremony

Childhood trauma ( pre-tragedy to pre-oz's-return )

The Tragedy of Sablier ( + any means of repetition )

Results of said happenings :

PTSD

Phobias

Rare episodes of dissociation ( included in PTSD )

Alterations to physical appearance

NOW THAT WE HAVE THAT OUT OF THE WAY LET'S GET TO THE GOOD STUFF

A typical nightmare is most likely a distressing repetition or exaggerated event associated with experiences Gilbert has come across. Oftentimes it is a vivid and elaborate replay of the past in which one is consciously aware of the choices made but is unable to change its results ( think of it as a mere dissociation but in the perspective of the dreamer's vessel (( their past / dream self )) and the dreamer cannot alter anything, only experience the trauma and witness the thought processes of their past / dream self ). These tend to end at the peak of distress.

Most frequent are the nights of eternal void, and most of these end at sporadic spans of time. These are not dealt with, and often lead to bouts of depression and a variety of other symptoms. Increased smoking and reassured thinking are two of his only coping mechanisms to ward off these episodes, but ultimately they fall victim to the intensity of his emotions and only aid in progressing them.

Hm, this one is difficult too for the same reason, but one in particular stands out right now. No matter where she's going or what day it is, she always keeps a small picture of her dad with her. One of those portrait pictures that can be kept in a wallet. He's such a crucial part of her life. A source of strength and courage. Even if a mere picture can't destroy all of her demons, it does provide comfort and it quells any insecurities that arise.

Hm, I have so many of these. So, picking one is challenging. Let's go with a season headcanon! The order of seasons from favorite to least favorite is: Spring, Fall, Summer, and Winter.

This doesn't apply to the current nature of their relationship, but that of the one that I imagine them establishing at some point. In addition to being an older sister type of figure, Sharon is also a mentor of sorts. For instance, when it comes to cooking, she enjoys teaching Echo how to make various dishes. The lessons don't always go smoothly and there's usually a mess to be taken care of, but they're still successes.
