To reply to your last point, I think it's partially cos most people *don't* spend their time thinking about the Monarch and because a lot of what they *do* is hidden behind layers and layers of the media/propaganda/legal jargon that I feel like the average joe might not understand (cos tbh, I didn't. I had to actually read about it to even hear about half the shit that happens). So when *gestures at the Jubilee bank holiday* happens, it's just seen as another welcome break.
(referring to this ask)
yeah i think you're absolutely right like... we're deliberately encouraged not to think too hard about it at this point.
but i would also argue that you don't need to think that hard to recognise that something isn't right about having a royal family like that in the year 2022 - as stacey solomon did on loose women in 2018 (and no doubt people have seen this clip resurfacing over the weekend):
(side point: it's so funny seeing those women there talking about the queen's sense of duty, responsibility, working hard... like... where are they getting this from? what duties? what responsibilities? when has she worked hard?)
by which i mean that you don't have to know all of the details of what the royal family have done (i assume you're referring to the queen blocking or altering various laws over the years for example) to recognise that there is a huge cost of living crisis facing the uk at the moment, and the royal family aren't exactly hiding their wealth.
but alas. maybe afua hirsch was right to point out that the queen is the most famous non-commercial brand in the world.
