HARPY PROTOTYPE | 2019 | Wearable wing sculpture; Bendable Poplar, Vinyl, Stitched Pleather, Foam, Translucent Spraypaint This project was from last week: I wanted to make something colorful and wearable and share it with my peers since the weeks prior had been dark and cold following the constant rain and a funeral. I wanted something warm and beautiful and bright like the gift from the sun after rain. I learned how to sew for the first time with this project (broke and fixed the machine I was using about 3 times), worked with bendable wood and stared at this project until I hated it (initially). My peers greeted it with open arms and words of praise calling it “majestic” and “powerful” and I honestly wanted to cry. I’m trying to learn not to hate the stuff I make, to have a little more faith in myself and my skills. It was a labor of love (emphasis on the labor), but I’m happy with the turn out and hope that shows through these photos.
