This is a drabble for animedancer14 (it won't let me tag you D:) in exchange for the coffee they provided to support me! Thank you so much for the support, and here's some fluffy Axe/Reader, just a small continuation of the Sunshine oneshot I wrote!
That's what it usually felt like.
His head was so foggy. It made him tired to think too hard too fast, and his stamina was already undesirably low. He took forever to answer a question, and sometimes he forgot the question and his answer made no sense.
A constant emotion. Why does it take so long to process what he wants for dinner? He can't go to restaurants because he can't stand the waiter standing around waiting for his decision. He can't stand the shops because it takes 5 whole minutes to answer “Cash or Credit”. On a good day, he at the most makes it out to the garden to lounge in the sun as Sugar tends the garden.
So why he was here, he didn't even know. But he couldn't help himself, he had sensed you and somehow his feet had followed before he could think.
It’s what he's taken to calling you in his mind. He's bad with names, so even though you'd introduced yourself at least three times now, he could only remember that you felt like sunshine: warm and inviting and relaxing. Even in this crowded coffee shop, when you took the moment to smile at him from behind the counter, it’s like the fog lifts and he can think again, he can breathe again, even surrounded by strange faces.
So against his better judgement, if that's even a thing he has anymore, he's taken to...following you about. Just things like going to the same store at the same time, so he can focus while he shops, or like walking a few paces behind you to work every day to make sure nobody bothers you, or passing by to check on you from afar throughout the day and clear his head. He can't think when you're too far. Can't do anything.
...Sugar thinks he just suddenly got amped about exercise.
A coffee clicked against the table in front of him and he smiled, feeling the fog wane as he looked up at you.
“What're you doin’ here, stranger?” You teased, sitting across from him with a coffee of your own, nails a quirky seafoam against the deep brown travel mug.
“y’know, bean here and there. needed a pick-me-up,” he chuckled, taking a sip. It's sickeningly sweet, compared to his usual black coffee, but the longer order was easy to autopilot at the counter. “saw you workin’ so i thought the line was worth it.”
Damn. If only you knew he was only this quick around you. How do you do that?
“Mmhmm. Nothing to do with how you followed me to work today? Or how you walked by the shop at least 45 times before walking in?”
You watched his one good eyelight constrict in panic, and you were quick to reach out and cover his hand with yours in reassurance. He looked at the joined hands and then back at you, clearly lost, scared, and curious all at the same time, close to overwhelmed.
“Relax, boneboy, I'm not mad. I mean, I'm not blind--you've been doing it since you bought all those cookies from me, and it isn't easy to miss the way you're always there when I need you."
The look on his skull said it all to you--he's so easy to read. Is he scary? Do you think he's a weirdo stalker? Why are you so calm? When does the bad part happen?
“Didn't say you were,” you giggled. “But, if you were my stalker, I wouldn't mind so much.”
“Nothing to get,” you chuckled. “...I think it’s cute.”
“Of course,” your eyes glinted, and for a moment he saw himself reflected there, and it was glorious--his visage through your eyes.
When you leaned over to kiss him gently, all he could do was lean into you, using every ounce of self-control he had left to not throw you down right then and there, in the middle of your workplace in front of all these people.
He'd missed something, hadn't he? The fog was so hard to keep up with--did you say why you wanted this or were you intentionally doing this with no explanation?
Hell, he doesn't care. The fog takes over, and mixed with your sunshine it’s...it’s colors in his head, and it’s beautiful, and he doesn't know what happened next but he knows one thing.
He knows he picked the right human to fall in love with, however accidentally.
